Surely that would be a Standing Order, not a DD?

It must be possible to pull money from a Tesco current account by DD, otherwise they wouldn't need to exclude them in the T's and C's.

The payment would need to be future dated on the current account end to be an SO.

We both had offers of 2500 points to switch, We also both had two current and two saving accounts . So it was an attempt to coerce us into using them as our main bank,

It would be a DD, as that's what the T&C's are about. Tesco savings accounts are (famously, if you're a regular here!) one of the dwindling band of savings accounts that offer DD facilities to draw money into them. Not only DDs, but multiple DDs from many accounts. Of huge value to many who need these for meeting current account (but not Tesco ones!) conditions.

But from April 2018 (infamously, if you're a regular here!) this facility is being removed.

So after April 2018, yes it would be SOs.

    Thanks all!

So.... I can open a Tesco account but not switch from my other account, and see if they offer me an incentive to switch?

    Yes you can.

While I believe that the Internet Saver triggered the incentive that I was offered, I held a current account with them beforehand.

They ask for the details of another account you hold for ID purposes, but they won't do a switch unless you ask them to.

Of course you can, but as I said yesterday, don't hold your breath;)

For anyone who reads this and works for Tesco and is a colleague you can earn £50 worth of Clubcard points for switching bank accounts-did it myself earlier on in the year.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Does that offer also apply to 'retirees'?...specifically those who took redundancy a couple of years ago (when they thinned out the management structure) and got to keep their staff discount card 'for life' by virtue of the age x service multiplier?
