Mobile Speed Camera Van

Hi im sure iv been zapped by a mobile speed camera van last saturaday, not by a large amount, gps saying 33, just looking for a little input as how long it is until a nip is received, i'm aware of the 14 day rule but on average if anyone on here has been issued a nip from a mobile camera van, how long after the offence did it come.

Many thanks

I think you’d be very unfortunate to be done at 33mph. Friend of mine just got a speeding notice, they were doing 38, and the letter said that as long as they were speeding between 35 and (IIRC) 43 they could go on a speeding course instead of the points. . My point being that implies nothing at all below 35mph.
Which ties in with what I’ve read elsewhere, 10% plus 2mph allowance
Let us know how it goes.

It has to be sent so as to be received in normal circumstances within 14 days. If you're somewhere that's got snow disruption currently, that may well delay it.

If the V5C is not in your name at your current address, then all bets are off - it will be sent to the name and address on the V5C. That may be a finance company.

But a speedo reading of 33 in a 30? Don't sweat it. Take it as a hint about your observation...
  • The date im worried about is 2/12/17 so iv been waiting for the letter for 1 week now, iv checked my Speedo against GPS & 33 is definitely around the speed I was going, the camera van was at the bottom of a hill, & i had to go up the other side of the hill first, rubbish really as I drive a 1.2 Corsa & needs some oomp to get me to the top of the hill in the 1st place!
I was also in a different county at the time so I'm wondering if that could make a difference in timescale, did notice that both doors were shut facing towards me bit then was concentring on speed so didn't take much notice of Windows for the dreaded camera
  • Do you know how long your friends NIP took to come time of OFFENCE until NIP was received? Was it the full 2 weeks? It's this waiting time whats the nightmare thanks

Bad weather is no excuse, nor a valid reason for none service.

You miss my point. The legislation does not require it to be delivered. It requires it to have been sent in sufficient time to have a reasonable expectation of delivery. If it gets lost or delayed in the post, then it does not become invalid.

Not quite. It must be served (ie received) within 14 days but, if it'a posted so it would normally arrive within that time, it'a assumed to have arrived in time and it'a up to the accused to show that it didn't.

    True.

But none of this is relevant in the OP's case. For 33 in a 30 limit he is simply not going to get a NIP, late or otherwise.
