Purchasing white goods - Miele or something cheaper

Options
So I need to buy a new Washing machine, dryer and dishwasher. Wondering whether or not to fork out quite a bit extra and go for Miele. Does the quality justify the price tag?

My Miele washing machine has lasted 8 years so far and no problems.

If it comes with a decent warranty, then yes it's worth it.

  • I've bought 2 LG washing machines, first lasted 9 years, 2 to 3 washes a day, second still going after 8 years, now 5 washes a week (kids grown up!!). Works well, costs a bit more than run of the mill brands but costs less than Miele. Not much to add other than my experiences.
Very quiet machines, and it plays a tune when it finishes the wash!!!

Our Miele washing machine is twice as old as stator's. It's worked out at about £1 a week to own a machine with a 10 year guarantee which it didn't need. I'd buy another without hesitation.

Not sure a dryer gets quite such a hammering. Our Zanussi is 30 years old and has never needed any repair.

We forget the dishwasher is there, so it's not had a fair test!

Wow, what a different world we live in, our dishwasher is possibly the most used large appliance in the house; we run it at least three times a day!

As it happens it came with the house and it's now time to replace it so if anyone has any recommendations for an integrated dishwasher that is exceptional at drying (no drips on glasses rims etc.) then I'm all ears...

I think to a large extent it's luck of the draw. We've had a Whirlpool Aquastream for at least 6 years, used pretty much daily, never a problem.

I paid £1700 for a Miele fridge freezer on the basis that it would last a long time. The fridge freezer has lasted 10 years so far but the seals have not, and they cannot be replaced. The only option is £700 to replace both doors. I will not be replacing as I do feel scammed, a cheaper fridge freezer has a full life cost that is more acceptable

The 4 Miele washing machines at my previous hospital were going 24/7 and never once broke down.

The Miele at my current hospital was bought from new but was just an expensive pile of scrap a year later. The engineer had his own reserved spot in the car park and I got to know him better than most of the people that actually worked at the hospital.

Well, it's going tonight, but we had guests.

Loading a dishwasher for two seems an awful faff, especially when there's a good view of the bird bath from the kitchen sink. ;)

What are you like with appliances? If they are always going wrong then get good ones with long guarantees, if you don't have much trouble then go for the run of the mill cheaper models.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
