Do you know your Amazon Echo from your Goggle home?

I am thinking of purchasing a Amazon Echos or a Goggle Home. Is there any key differences between to the two?

Do you simply plug in, and switch on, or is there more to do?

What are the key benefits / features, from the different Amazon Echos, and the Goggle Home's ????

Where the cheapest to purchase?

I'd be interest to follow this and I don't see the attraction of them, but have to admit I don't really know much about them other than people talk to them...

I tried both before purchasing and went for the Google Home, I've since bought two and one mini home.
The sound quality was better in the GH than with Alexa.
I bought them initially for the music aspect. I have a Google Play account and have uploaded all my music.
It's much easier to just ask for an album, artist, track, playlist, than sorting through the CD's. Used in conjunction with Chromecast they also play music via my HiFi and play video content on the TV.
They now also control my lights and plugs, oh, and the heating.:o

No doubt the usual anti Google campaigners will have some objections, but, I care not. Their concerns are not mine and life is far too short.

Whichever you go for, I'm sure you will find a use for them. But, beware, they do become addictive.

What are you expecting from the device ?
If you have amazon prime get the echo, if you pay for google music, get the google home.

We have 3 echos, use them for turning lights on / off at home / while out, turning heating up / down, get news updates, play music, set timers and alarms.

The base functionality is much the same, I suspect the google home is better for general enquires though

Google Home interacts brillantly with my Google callender on Android mobile.

    I use it every day.

Not sure if Amazon can do this?

Annoyed Google Home cannot answer "what's on BBC1" but I guess live TV isn't very "in" these days.
