Motley Fool

Hi all,

What are people's thoughts/opinions of Motley Fool?

I maybe stupidly signed up on the website (without paying anything) and they have been spamming me with emails about paying a discounted "winter sale" fee for membership of £39 for 6 months which ends soon (yeah yeah heard it all before) which I can cancel and get a full refund within 30 days!

So i guess my question is, is it worth it and what's stopping me if I could pay have a look around for a couple of weeks, cancel and get my money back? Unless they make the getting my money back part hard work.....

Sorry if this has been asked before. I did do some searches

Thanks in advance

Why pay to be a fool when you can be an expert for free?

I used to visit it regularly, but haven't done for a lot of years, after they changed their management / systems / whatever.

The whole mantra of Motley Fool used to be "use trackers to beat the city's wise men". They then sold out and wanted a piece of the action themselves

Motley fool is a waste of time. i wonder what the record is for whether the "experts" get it right or not. i imagine its 50-50, i.e. you might as wlel toss a coin.

I prefer seeking alpha, much more comprehensive and a wider choice of companies. you can also see comments and you can tell from there if the author is good or not. much more detailed. and its all free.

    Sold out to who??

They used to promote passive investing and were paid by a provider of passive investments to promote their products. Then they decided to run their own active investments and earn from that.

So, depending on your definition of selling out, I would say its a fair statement.
