SMS Shortcodes Not Supported

Increasingly the banks, NHS, charity donations etc. are using these. Typically, they send a message and ask you to use a 5 digit shortcode to reply.

I have just changed my provider to Asda Mobile only to find they don't support this. You start the reply to the shortcode but it doesn't get sent. I believe that PlusNet is the same.

Asda Mobile is brilliant in all other respects but I need this facility and so must change Provider. Any suggestions , please, for a provider who supports SMS shortcodes on a a PAYG tariff where you only top-up when required (not regularly each month).

There may be MVNO's that support them (Giffgaff do I think from memory) but it's considered a value added service which is why MVNO's are generally cheaper.

Edit: I think the carriers have to pay someone to support shortcodes.

Virgin support them as well. Think yourself lucky. Premium charged texts are one of biggest pains in the derriere to deal with and are unlikely without shortcodes
