As late as it is, can I please join. I don't get paid until later in the month, so haven't transferred any savings yet anyway! Target £12k

I would suggest silent-reading of the investments and savings part of the forum - I suggest silent because of my own experience; there are one or two people who regularly browse and post and for reasons known better to themselves, they like to demonstrate how little the poster know/understands rather than being helpful.

I've found this myself. Thank goodness we don't have that problem on this thread.
    Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.

This thread is very inspiring! It's so great to see so many other people set themselves targets, whether they're lower or higher than our own. My target is rather ambitious, and totally depends on if overtime stays on all year. For the last two years it's never stopped.

I get paid 13 times a year, and so hoping to save £1k per month to meet my target. However, if overtime stops, there will be no way I'll hit the £12k.

Will be exciting to see how this progresses. My guess is that I'll end up at around the £9k mark, but I really want to have a good go at £12k!

Good luck everyone! - Hopefully see you drinking a cocktail upon Copacabana next year! :D

Thank you bobobski, you have given me so much to consider, the site looks good & as you say, the tutorials are really helpful, I will try to be as proactive as you when I have read & understood the information... I am so appreciative of all the effort you have gone to to help me out, it's so nice to see when someone has done so well they help & guide other people Thank you again for all your help, just out of interest, what is your goal this year for? Any particular reason or are you quite prudently saving for something special in the future? I am going over a few things this evening, & I think i am going to post my low figure in the morning, that way I will be able to manage it & maybe pop some more in as I go... I will lokk out for you on here & see how you are doing, Thanks again Denise x

You're very welcome, just paying it forward as I've received so much good advice from these forums over the last few years :) My goal is buying a property - my original plan was to save up for a few more years and buy the "forever" house as my first house but for various reasons I'm currently trying to buy a starter home with the original plan still acting as Plan B in case it all falls through!

Can you please put me down for £20K

    Thanks.

I've found this myself. Thank goodness we don't have that problem on this thread.

We do occasionally get someone popping up questioning why bother saving, we could die tomorrow, we should live a little, that's what credit cards are for, etc.

The waves of happy savers that post after usually drown them out and they skulk off.

Starter home sounds good, if you find one that needs doing up a bit, (a great time to hone your DIY skills) that should add more value too, maybe worth going round estate agents to see what they have available, plus you can tell them what you are looking for, keep ringing them, being the friendly person that you are, they will want to help you out, my DD did that & they rang her as soon as something suitable came on the market, it didn't even get to rightmove, it's usually a case of worst house best area you can afford, is where you live expensive? I have done up a few over the years & its always worked out well, went from house, sold it, better house in a rough state, done it up sold it, until i was happy in the home where i was in, until I split up, but that's another story... I also have seen on facebook, people saying they can buy a house quickly from people who are looking to sell quickly (for whatever reason) at a discounted price, maybe worth when you have had a mortgage approved in principal & are ready to go, that you post that on facebook if you are on it? maybe worth checking this out if it helps you? & if you are in my area, I am handy with anything from a drill to a paintbrush lol, good luck in your saving & the house-hunting, keep us updated xx
