Broadband prices include line rental

Options
I’ve finally clocked on to the fact bt will charging me more from January 2018. When I got sent the email, I wrongly assumed they were talking about the £2 increase already implemented during my 2 year contract.

All the prices that I’m seeing on comparison sites, do they all include line rental now? I only require broadband.

Like the one that seems the best deal for me is Plusnet as if I pay line rental up front, it works out £16.22 ish.

At first blush, this appears better than the £17.09 (line rental saver) plus £9 for broadband that I’ll be paying with bt come January.

Or is there hidden costs that I’m unaware of?

Apparently I have until tomorrow to cut bt off as it’s been a month since they told me. After that, I will have to pay a cancellation charge.

Didn’t think of that. Thanks. Think I’ll cancel bt tomorrow and take Plusnet. Mse mentions £50 cashback, but not sure if I have to go through top cashback for that.

It says it will b set up in 10 days, but bt need me to give 30 days notice. Do I just have to live with the overlap or can I request plusnet to start on a certain day? Or is it best to have an overlap so there is no risk of not having internet?

  • If switch is due to price increase 14 days is the norm. dont forget to phone BT and inform them that you are leaving due to price increase.

60.00 cashback via TCB ( assuming ADSL) or 50.00 cashback if you go direct to Plusnet -

Thanks for that. What do you mean 14 days is the norm? Do you mean I should have informed BT 14 days after they informed me of price increase? They told me today I have until 6th Dec.

Or did you mean I only have to give them 14 days notice to cancel?

Or did you mean it takes 14 days for the new company to switch?

I'm a bit dim when it comes to this. Seems to be the only thing I don't regularly switch!

Most companies quote 10 working days or 14 days from agreement to take a contract to the date of connection.Plusnet quote 10 days and ignore weekends .

eg I ordered on a Friday,so they said my connection would be 10days counting the next working day(Monday)and the line was sorted on the Friday two weeks later (broadband early on Saturday as they count Saturday,up to noon, as Friday).

It won't affect you as you don't intend to use the phone ,but PN charge 99p for caller display, though their call packages are cheaper than BT's and all contain calls to mobiles.

14 Calendar days or 10 Working days is pretty much the same thing

O/P - Have you considered switch to Sky 60.00/70.00 Quidco/Topcashback plus 50.00 Reward Card from Sky

Less than 10.00 a month after incentives with 12 Month contract

    The above has assumed ADSL.

Sky may well put up prices around March, Plusnet maybe June- September based on previous years increases thus possibility of hopping from one to another following price increase announcements and of course back to BT for a new customer incentive(s)

Phone BT informing them wish to move to another provider due to BT price increase email thus breaking contract charge/penalty free.

Apply to new provider, straight forward switch should take 10 working days/14 calendar days ( My current switch from BT to Sky will be exactly 14 calendar days
