It would be a very unusual home WiFi network that was more secure than the mobile data network on a cellular network.
There are numerous backdoors and weaknesses in the routers that many ISPs supply, and physically the network is much more accessible than a mobile phone apart from the fact it's stationary so if someone wanted to hack into your comms what better way to do it than where your network is just sat waiting for connections.
This is aside the lax security that most will apply to their WiFi setup whereas that doesn't even exist on the phone network, there aren't passwords and the like accessible to most. Plus how often do you upgrade your phone OS compared to your router OS?
If you wanted to make the most secure banking transactions you'd be best to do them off WiFi.

That's a good point and applies to many. My router isn't from an ISP, doesn't have a stock SSID, the password is secure (15+ characters) and its OS is up-to-date. The network is protected by a firewall and a DNS sinkhole (pi-hole).

I don't use a smart phone for personal use. My ipad is all I need for occasional access to the Atom App. On one occasion I could not get an update to appear in the App Store due to an Apple issue, I telephoned Atom and they helped me install.

My usual online banking is done using an ethernet cable to the router. It inherits the protection of the network as well as the protection installed on the computer. I don't bank using other computers.

Unable to open the ATOM app when connected on home WIFI.
Only way is to use mobile data - which is fine if included in a monthly tariff/contract not on PAYG !

    ..............

Is using mobile data on PAYG such a big issue for you?

I do, occasionally, and it rarely costs me more than 2p or 3p.

You are probably in the top 0.0001% of most secure home users.

Atom is not going to be for everyone. Logon via either PIN, facial recognition or voice recognition. When it comes to transfering money on maturity then you need to use 2 of the 3 methods, eg if you log on using PIN you will need to use voice or facial recognition to confirm withdrawal.

Quick update : ATOM was unable to solve the problem. Finally got an answer from my internet provider (ORIGIN BROADBAND) :
" some banking apps have an issue with some internet providers which need to be added on a " white list " (?) to allow connection to the app server ".

Reply from ATOM : use someone else's WIFI (family's, friend's or public) if, like me, you don't want to pay/use Mobile Data as I am on PAYG until their tech staff resolve the issue.

I guess it would work if I used one of the bigger IPs such as BT, Talk Talk, Virgin, Post Office, Plusnet etc...
