Hi,

Newbie here :j.

Looking for a bit of advice regarding Atom Bank and its smart phone App.

We are familiar with internet desktop banking , but have been late comers to smart phone use and do not really use the mobile much for surfing etc so are a bit concerned about using the Atom Bank App etc

Also been looking but unable to see anything saying its possible to get a printed statement of our account if we open one ?

Are there any good words of advice on how to use Atoms App and stay secure on the mobile.
We use a mobile AV suite and only use the direct ISP connection, not wifi.

Many thanks

I've put the atom app on my phone,Moto g5 and all works well. It doesn't work on my Lenovo tab but I'm told, that's due to the multitude of different android devices available.
Reading between the lines, are you asking is it safe? I
Believe it is, for whatever t!hats worth.
Can you get a printed statement,no I don't think so.
But why do you want one? It is a leap of faith at first I accept, it's unusual handing over £xK to someone with no high standard presence. All I can add is, I've done it and earning good interest, relatively.

Does the app not have a print facility?

Setting up print facilities from Android is fairly straightforward but you do need to use WIFI, either direct to the printer or through the wireless network.

What exactly do you mean by "only use the direct ISP connection"? Are you using wifi to the router and to the ISP or are you using mobile data "3g" to your mobile phone company?

Personally I would have thought that an app only bank isn't suitable for anyone who isn't totally mobile based. Logically they should provide both, otherwise it is just a gimmick, IMHO.
  • Hi,

Yes, sorry, we mean using the mobile data connection, and no, we are not totally mobile based, thats the crux of the problem, though using small screens and small keypads is not everyones idea of fun, though thats doubtless not something the younger ones can appreciate, yet.

From what we have read, they say a mobile banking app is safer /more secure than using a PC ....?

    Well atom would, wouldn't they!

Personally I have never used Internet banking on my phone and only used banking on my tablet on a vanishingly small number of occasions.

I just have no need this level of mobility and don't beleive that many people truly do.

Phone screens and keyboards are too small IMHO and tablets work fine using industry standard HTML rather than apps most of the time.

I have an account with Atom. I'm reasonably tech savvy but don't rely solely on my mobile.

I wouldn't want to use an app only based account for day to day banking, but for fixed rate/fixed term, it suits me fine.

I'm with badger09 on this one. Tbh, the flying graphics look a bit Toytown to me but still, FSCS speaks louder.

I've just in the last hour opened a savings account with Atom Bank, more as experiment than in the expectation of making a fortune. As a long-term MSEer and doing similar for decades, I was nearly floored by the initial ID questions about bank accounts, mortgages and so on - I've been ditching/switching for a long time :)

Web site versus app security sounds a geekworthy question and I shall avoid answering. I would twitch if using either on a public wifi system without OpenVPN back to my home system, or more likely I would stick with mobile (GSM, 3G) data. Definitely check your mobile OS is not susceptible to KRACK if you are out-and-about using wifi.

We just use it for saving, so we don't use the app at all on a day to day basis. But it was easy to set up and worked well on a low end Android phone. Much better than some reviews would have you believe IMO.

What happens if you change your mobile number some time downline?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I got put off by Atom when I read that they use biometrics and voice recognition. I don't want to talk to my phone nor do I want it to take a picture of me.

Unable to open the ATOM app when connected on home WIFI.
Only way is to use mobile data - which is fine if included in a monthly tariff/contract not on PAYG !

Beware then as ATOM bank following statement found in app/support :

Is there anything else that affects how I use the app?

A couple of things could. First, as we mentioned above, you need a compatible smartphone or tablet, and you'll also need either WiFi or at least 3G.

    is incorrect !
