I would use my Halifax Clarity card and draw out local cash from an ATM in each port of call.

Perhaps a small amount of local currency in cash for which ever country is your initial landing point before boarding the ship. If however transfers are included and you are simply going from airport to cruise embarkation point then you might not even need that.

Also check what currency is used on board the ship as you may need some of that in cash for settling accounts, excursions, tips - if not paying all on account.

Buying foreign currency or putting it on a card is not good value and you are often stuck with leftovers that cost you again to change back to pounds.

It's better to keep your money in pounds until spending or withdrawing cash from ATMs in the various countries, at the best rates, by using a suitable fee-free credit card, prepaid card, or Starling Bank debit card. Take at least two in case of loss or any problems. Pay by card whenever possible.
