Hi,
My parents have just completed on house, and want to change the barrel of the lock.
However looking at it I've no idea how to know what type it is, and therefore what type of barrel to buy. Hoping someone can help please!
I've included photos we took, and as it was difficult to read, I've also put below the text that is visible on the lock itself:
At top it says FULLEX XL
In the middle it says SBD
At the bottom it says POLICE PROTECT SPECIFICATION

SBD means Secure By Design, those details only relate to the multi-point locking mechanism. It shouldn't make any real difference to which cylinder you buy, what you need to do is ensure you buy a cylinder of the correct length. The simplest thing to do would be to take the existing one out and measure it on each side.
Which cylinder are you going to replace it with? I'd recommend a Brisant Ultion diamond secure though you may only be able to source this from a locksmith - I have one on my conservatory doors. The ABS Avocet is also frequently recommended on here.0 -
Thanks for replying, that's really helpful. Not got as far as looking what to replace it with, I thought we'd need to identify the type first, and then look at options.
As you can tell, I've never had to change the barrel of a lock before! I'd assumed there would be markings on there to identify the type.
I will look into the ones you have recommended thank you.0 -
Have a look round this website for helpful info on removing the lock, measuring for the replacement and supply of a variety of replacement types.

If you have more than 1 of these locks around the house (we have 5) consider changing all of them to "keyed alike" so 1 key operates all locks - makes the keyring much lighter! I also chose to have tab locks with the tabs on the inside of all external doors, so in emergency we do not need to find the key to get out of the house. OK, a villain can smash the glass then reach inside to open the lock and door, but that was my choice.0 -
Have a look here for starters...................

Apparently you now need to pay Photobucket $399.99 a year if you want to use pictures hosted on their website on an internet forum.
Tinypic is still free - but for how longer?0 -

Oh no, I don't know why it's not working now, it was working fine when I posted. First time I've used photobucket, I'll not use it again if it cuts off the photos after a couple of days0 -
Yes all the pics were there yesterday !!
Cos I saw them..........0 -
I've found somewhere else to host the images and have update the OP.0

An alternative solution (easier but a bit more expensive) would be to remove it from the door and take it to a locksmith (or DIY store) and ask for a suitable replacement.
(leave someone in the house while you're out with the lock!)0 -
