I would love to de-clutter but whilst DB is around its not going to happen. He is a massive obsessive hoarder!! I do try and spirit things away, but am not always successful.....he has been known to go through the paper bin to retrieve something.
I did de-clutter some of my stuff earlier this year, but I have a big weakness, crystal glass. I have stopped buying it, but there is quite a bit still around. My big problem is fabric. I have not bought quilting fabric for a while until my DGS asked for a quilt for his expected baby girl. I tried to limit my buying to fat quarters. Earlier this year I sent a box of fabric up to a friend in Scotland, I think she might be getting some more.0 -
csarina, what are fat quarters? I've heard other quilters mention them, but I've never quilted - what do you do with them?0

A yard of quilting fabric cut into four equal parts, one piece which measures roughly 22 inches by18 is a fat quarter, a long quarter is a 9 inch strip cut the width of the fabric. You cut them up along with other pieces of fabric and sew them together to make a block. A quilt is made up of blocks sewn together.
Hope that makes sense.....0 -
Probably not the right thread, but in hopes of maintain the momentum I'll post here. The morning I have found a lovely boxed set of ten gardening books. My friend has just moved into a house with a lovely garden so they will be part of her Christmas present. Books were £1.99 for the set! I have been making little seed packets for her which I will add some of the 10p and 30p a packet seeds I got from wilkos the other week. I have also made labels with old lolly sticks painted with blackboard paint so a dozen of those will go in too.
Wondering if anyone else is making Christmas gifts for friends/family this year? I have also started getting the gifts together for my HM crackers for the dining table on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Hoping all are well, and the mention of the C word doesn't close the thread!!

bexster, what a lovely present :T & making presents is definitely a Simpler Thing to do :T - no crowded shops, rude sales assistants or too much money spent :rotfl: DH & I do not really ‘do’ Christmas - bah humbug:D We make a special meal on the day with lots & lots of veg, potatoes & a different meat each year - plenty for bubble & squeak :T
My route to a Simpler Life has been aided by making clothing repairs after each wash & before putting away :rotfl: So nice to take something out of a drawer or wardrobe & not have to hunt for a button or needle & thread :rotfl:
The decluttering has stalled a bit but I am starting to do a bit more housework, keeping things tidy & putting things away properly plus baking & cooking from scratch. I feel so much calmer & am not beating myself up about not decluttering :rotfl: My targets are to be clutter free, house decorated & new bathroom and cloakroom by end of October 2019 :rotfl:
So wishing everyone continued success in their journeys to a Simpler Life

The cleaning, cooking from scratch & baking are still ongoing - as well as a bit of gardening. My Simpler Life is on course - even if the decluttering has stalled

Great news MrsSD re: simplifying.
I am continuing to simplify here too. HM soups and croutons, HM Christmas crackers being made, experimenting with an idea to make gifts/ make extra cash with a good friend of mine too.
Looking up recipes to start buying ingredients needed each week for Christmas edible makes too.
Home is looking great now I have more time to maintain it/enjoy it. Lots of days out to NT places with Mr Bexster ( he will not like that I called him that, so that won't happen again)
Hope all is going well for everyone. Please join in again, especially in the run up to Christmas which was what had inspired this threads founding!

Way to go Bexster :T
My simplifying is now of the variety of ‘not doing much’ :rotfl: :rotfl: I am still doing the day to day cleaning & cooking but not much else - apart from knitting scarves for Whitechapel Mission
Am I downheartedwell actually no
I know that my decluttering mojo will return, I will start deep cleaning again although I will never be a domestic goddess :rotfl:
Now that my DH’s eye is fully on the mend (he had a detached retina ) I will get him back in the garden & we can tidy up for the winter
I am looking forward to reading everyone posts :rotfl:

De-cluttering has been well and truly done this weekend! :T
The work on the house is starting this week so this weekend we got rid of:
3 wardrobes, 3 bedside cabinets, 1 double bed frame, 1 single bed frame, 2 chests of drawers and 18 bin sacks full of clothing and bits & pieces!! :j
We've gone through the DVD's so I have a load of them to get rid of via ziffit or something similar, I will start to transfer all my cd's onto my mp3 player this week so that they can go too..... I have organised all my other stuff and although I look like my house is full of stuff (having the sparky start this week so have had to clear things that are going to remain in the house into other rooms) by the time I'm finished with all work in the house, I will be a clutter free home :j
In fact, we are having wardrobes fitted in two of the bedrooms and I have a feeling that my one box of clothing will be very lonely!! :rotfl:
Hope everyone is okay.....hugs to those that need them x0
