Unless it's just clever marketing, of course

    Ingredients listed here http://www.simple-barsoap.co.uk/products/pure-soap-125g-1.html

It is hard to try and be more natural isn't it? Trying to eliminate as many chemicals as possible from our lives and its certainly not easy.

I use good old Imperial Leather and it's fine. Anything fancier brings me out in spots
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

:) I just use Knights Castile and its fine. The commonest irritant in toiletries is perfume, so the less of that, the less likely to be ill-effects.

In an effort to not use nasty chemicals and plastic bottles etc and save money, I would like to stop using face wash and go back to soap on my face....( which I have not used for years and old fashioned soap used to dry it out).
Has anybody got any ideas for something with not too many chemicals, but that is suitable for my 60 year old face. I did have a look at Dove, which says it is not a soap but a cleansing bar. But there seem to be several to choose from and also do contain quite a lot of nasties.

Check out Dr Bronners Castille Bar Soap or if you have a local health food shop they may do a soap free bar, we have one available locally which is vegan, contains 4 ingredients and is suitable for hair, face and body and it comes wrapped in paper which can be recycled easily, there may be something similar in your area.

I don't use soap at all on my face, just a wet washcloth. I've been told by two dermatologists to avoid soap anywhere (I have sensitive skin). They also told me not to use shower gel, it strips off the natural oils, and the friendly bacteria on the surface of our skin. Even the so called 'Especially developed for sensitive skin' and 'Recommended by dermatologists' types.

You can't make soap without lye. Which is caustic soda. There are web sites which tell you it's chemically altered when saponified - but the basic ingredients are still inside the bar.

This is interesting, even if it has been constructed to tempt customers to buy the company's alternative 'creamy' soaps! Creamy soaps just have a higher fat to lye ratio. If you read the 'home made soap without using lye' recipes on the internet, the basic ingredient is commercially made castille soap. Made with lye.

'Creamy' shower gels are just detergent with additional ingredients. I have one in front of me that contains lactoserum. Milk proteins. I prefer my milk proteins in the form of cheese.
I do use a little soap but only on the bits that need it, according to this site.
  • I feel very happy with the way the year is going so far. I have started exercising, lost some weight and paid a lump sum off my mortgage. I want the mortgage gone by the end of 2018.:T

I use that on my face and in the shower, the baby one.:)

I need to source suitable soap for me, too. For years, I've used hand-made artisan soap from the farmers market, but the people have retired and stopped making it, so I'm back to square one. I've tried Mr LW's 1mperial L£ather soap, and it makes me itch horribly, so I can't just share his. And I do like my soap to smell of something (the artisan soap has proper essential oil in, afaik). I have a little while to search, as I have a stash of about 4 bars still.

That's very interesting. Wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info
