Even if there is no sat signal to the sky box there will be an output showing something on the screen. I am sure just clicking away at the input button will just scroll through them.
  • I just had a gloss over this thread . Have you connected the telephone cord to your router from your tv ?
    I haven’t a smart tv , but I have a todhiba and they are great .

"telephone cord" "adsl cables" ???
I presume you mean ethernet (RJ45) cables?

This isn't really an option for the OP, as the TV is upstairs in a bedroom.
They are attempting to connect the TV via wifi, which I think they managed.....sort of. Not sure if they got any of the apps working though?

I don't know the TV. but found the manual

    https://toshiba-tv.com/files/a01-mb120-gb-ib-qsg-43400-48122-t2-c-s2-ob-intwifi-10107888-50375531_209C0B733621.pdf

    check page 9
    About Selecting Broadcast Type

That part of the setup needs to be done right if you want to use the SAT input.

if the wifi is up I would start any one of the apps that uses the internet(youtube on the remote or button 27 the internet) and check that.

think you might be on to something there getmore4less. Trouble is Im at work at the moment so can't check but I did wonder about this. Just because I am very stupid which of these options should I be choosing if I am attempting to access the Freesat/Freeview channels through a Sky HD box? I think I remember choosing satellite previously and had read on another (of many!) forums to choose Astra 92.8 I think but then nothing happens - it doesn't take you on to the next page.

Or should i be choosing digital aerial?

I thought i would be able to use internet access for what she wanted to watch.

Probably, but you still need to set it up. Easy way might be to move the TV temporarily to where there is an aerial input available, go through the tuning etc, then move the TV back.
I've connected the aeriel which was originally connected to the sky box and connected it direct to the TV through the Ant Sat one connection. I'm changing the source on the remote but getting no signal on any of the choices (non of which have anything resembling ant or sat in them).nothing else is connected to the TV at the moment. Any ideas please?

Are you trying to connect a lead from a satellite dish, into an aerial input? That won't work. ANT-TV wants an aerial connected, not a sky dish or Virgin cable. Then you can tune in the Freeview, then you can let your daughter use the TV.
I was hoping to cable it to roof aerial for Freeview

    Yes, good
and also connect to our Virgin Settopbox to access our Virgin tv package

Your Virgin box would need to have an output for this, but I don't think it does. Is it a TiVo, or a newer one, and people can advise on your options.
which I tried connecting direct to the tv by screwing into the correct port

Aerial connectors don't screw, they just push. Satellite connectors screw. You will get nowhere until you sort out what connector goes to an aerial. If that's too difficult, you could take a chance and buy/borrow an indoor aerial.
Hi there the problem is I don't know which source or input to choose

You should be choosing, on the new TV 'TV', 'Digital', 'Freeview' or similar - as in, the TV's own internal tuner.

'Digital Aerial' is for terrestrial Freeview via a rooftop or loft aerial.

'Satellite' is for the free to view channels from the satellite dish, for which the correct satellite is Astra 28.2.

As has been explained before, you connect the Sky HD box to the TV with an HDMI or scart lead, and it requires no setting up on the telly, other than turning to the correct source by pressing button 31 on the remote (presuming the Sky box has been set up previously).

The TV will automatically connect to the Sky box if HDMI (or Scart) control is enabled.

    Channel 31? Really? ;)
