No it is not, it's no problem unless you happen to work at a place that again enforces rules without thinking and then marks you down for taking too long on a call. These sort of places also come under the bad places to work part. Back when I worked call centres all I had to do it note that it was such a call and then the call was discarded for stat purposes.

There's more to it than length of call, personally (as the caller) i find text relay very difficult, and from the calls that I've had to make using it it's very clear that both the relay person and the person in the call centre are also finding it hard because it introduces a third person who has to type everything that's beign said

Well yes there can always be issues. However maybe you rang a call centre that pays nothing, treats staff badly and therefore has a high turnover of staff and the staff there have little to no training!

These places exist with all the cost cutting going around. The person in the call centre probably just could not handle everything beyond the one script they had looked at.

When I took a lot calls a number of them were from Indian call centres. You could tell how much they were paid and how much their employer thought of them by how the calls went. Some just rabbited their scripts at you and could not understand when you went off it. Some were fine and you could not want better. Likewise with the call centre staff over here. But with the race to the bottom I know what you are more likely to get if you ring these days! If you want competance you have to go to the internet relations team as has often been noted around here!

Oh please you know nothing about me! This is the 1st time ever in my life I’ve ever been accused of being unprofessional. No one heard my swearing trust me, the desks are very spaced apart and the lady I spoke to had ended the call, she wasn’t on the line.

workplace, 2 months in, you ocked up S8it happens.

call centres are high turnover places they don't need to mess around. get them in keep them tlll they make a mistake or leave or get to 1Y 11m keep the really good ones sack the rest.

You can't defend this, you could be the nicest person in the world. it how call centres work you failed along with 100s of others every month or so across the country.

Depends on wheather they want to be a good call centre or a bad one.

If they want to be a good one they will train their staff and be reasonable with them.

If they just care about the costs and an easy life they will have a high turnover and not be able to provide a compitant service.

This is especially true of outsourced call centres who just care about what they are marked on and will hang up on diffucult calls so the stats don't go bad. Remember stats are lies.
  • It really doesn't matter whether you were heard or not. Swearing in the workplace is unprofessional.

I don't think I've ever worked in an office environment where swearing didn't happen. Maybe it's a generation thing.

I just wanted some advice. I did work in a call centre taking sales over the phone which are monitored by more senior staff. I had a particularly frustrating customer and after the call ended I said phucks sake to myself in frustration which no one surrounding me heard. It was said to myself to vent, customer didn’t hear it. I’ve worked here for only 2 months and today was instantly dismissed for this as a manager listened in the call even though the swearing was said to myself and directed at no one else . I’ve worked in many different places before this and it would never even be an issue. I’m pretty stunned and find it ridiculous. Was also insulted as was told it was unprofessional. I’m not bothered about working at the company anymore because I think it was stupid I got dismissed for such a minor thing but could this be construed as unfair dismissal? I’ve never experienced anything like this in any other job, I’m stunned.

I have had a lifetime of experience in the City. Whilst standards have changed over the past 50 years, and whilst now swearing does occur in moments of stress, it is still not accepted professional behaviour and would be frowned upon - and never, ever in the presence of the client or public. I have known young employees being warned that the casual use of bad language is not tolerated and would not help in any career progression so, yes, your oh f*ck it" was unprofessional and if the client could hear you - even if not directly addressed to the client, it could be construed as conduct leading to dismissal.

Somebody must have heard you. Supervisors simply don't have time to listen to recordings of every call made. As I said previously, if the call had been ended the comment wouldn't have been captured on the recording.
You screwed up, I accept you didn't intend it to be heard, but just take it as a learning experience and move on.
