Do I need travel insurance for short trip?

I used to think this way, and couple of years ago I was wondering if I really need a £50 insurance for a family if I am only ever going to stay in a resort for 7 days. Guess what? my son managed to fracture his arm while playing on what can only be a very safe environment and I thanked my wit to buying that insurance in the first place. I still had to pay the excess and the treatment given was an inflated price but it would have been still a major shock of a bill.

Brexit hasn't happened yet so what has that got to do with it? I've not seen anyone on TA complaining that their EHIC hasn't been accepted in Portugal.

My friend tells a great story of how they returned from holiday on a flat bed, no champagne available, to an airport with no blue, green or red customs channels and then transferred by flat bed from plane to a white taxi. They were in the theatre within 2 hours of landing and no it wasn't the Palladium.
