Do I need travel insurance for short trip?

I’m going to a French ski resort for a few days next week and wondered if I should take out insurance. I won’t be skiing but probably will do quite a bit of walking. I’m in my 60s and thinking about if I slip and hurt myself. I’m confident I’d get treatment through my E111 or whatever it’s called these days but do I need insurance if unable to make my return flight, have to stay longer etc? I think I’ve answered my own question really but would welcome input, thanks.

If you've got enough funds of your own to pay for new flights, additional nights etc, then no.0

If you're run over by a bus you may need repatriation by ambulance, or air ambulance. Worst case of course.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

Even with an EHIC, medical treatment in France isn’t always free. You would expect to pay a contribution to the cost.0

This advice is spot on.
Insurance is for the worst case - insurance companies make money because you rarely need to use their products. But when you do, you'll be glad of it!Legal team on standby0 -

Or if you need an air ambulance:

I'm glad you talked yourself into it and I'm sure you're absolutely right!
I heard something today that most accidents occur very early on in a holiday when we're in an unfamiliar setting.
It shouldn't cost much for a short holiday. Have a good time.0 -
I think most medical services in French ski resorts are private, so your Ehic card wouldn't help if you fell ill/ slipped on ice and had to go to hospital. You'd be charged and have to pay there and then, and be expected to claim on your insurance.
Of course, in many practices over there, a simple phone call to your insurer would probably be enough for them to authorise treatment and you may well only have to pay the excess.0 -
Since Brexit some hospitals in Portugal have been ignoring the Eurozone reciprocal agreement and have been charging Brits. Not saying the same is the case in France, perhaps someone else can chime in.0
