Switching to a sim-only contract for iPhone?

12-month contract on O2/CPW (with cashback) has been finished nearly two months now. I have just obtained an iPhone from an apple retail store in the states on a recent trip, and i've managed to activate and unlock iPhone for any network - my current O2 sim works great in replacement of the AT&T which was in there.... but I'm still paying a whopping £35/month for only 400 mins and 100 txts on my existing contract.

How can I get this down massively with a sim-only deal and no free phone? Are there any good deals around for this at the moment? I only really need about this number of minutes and maybe a few more txts a month. Should I call CPW and say I want to cancel contract? or should I ask for my PAC code?

I've also heard O2 are doing data plans.... which i'd be able to make good use of with the EDGE on the iPhone, Safari, google maps, youtube and email. Does anyone know if these data plans are readily available and how much they cost?

I should just say, the iPhone is the most AMAZING phone, ipod and internet device I have ever used. My mate has an N95, and the iPhone can run rings around it. The brightness and resolution of the display alone is truly stunning, and i still cant get over how incredible the multi-touch screen is... so I can confirm its now the time to STOP GETTING N95's - and wait for 9th November when you'll be able to pick up an iPhone at your local apple store, and unlock it to your network (iPhone works good on Orange too btw!) :D

You have the ability to get an i-phone from the US and get it unlocked, but don't know how to find a thread detailing getting the best retention from o2

I've seen how they are unlocked and was tempted to purchase one, but if they push an upgrade down, then you could be phoneless - thats the gamble.
For the money it is not worth it imo
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
  • hi, i too was recently in the states and was planning to buy an iphone out there. when i went into the apple shop i was told i have to purchase the AT&T contract with the phone and every time i make a call in England i would be charged roaming!

You can get it on O2 this coming Friday (9th November in UK) yourself or if you want it from USA you can get it with the contract get it unlock and than use a UK simcard in it, not the AT&T simcard in it whilst in UK so not making roaming costs.. But I myself think either get it in UK or France (where it will be unlocked from Apple at source) or not brother for a while.
