Ormus mentioned that M&S are very reasonable when they have a sale on. I have seen a lovely jacket and wonder whether anyone knows when the next M&S sale will be on and is it likely to be on before Xmas. Or do they have a price promise like John Lewis?
Many thanks

New Look do some great basics. I bought a few 3/4 sleeve tops last year (I think they were about £8) and they are still going strong. They wash great, keep their colour and shape.0

I don't think M&S are too expensive if you stick to basics - I read a piece of advice years ago, NEVER buy a print from M&S - it will be obvious!
But I have recently bought a couple of shrug style tops which are flattering, comfortable, and not at all frumpy, a ballet wrap top, £12 each, some round/scoop neck tops, short sleeve for £6.50 with lots of lycra and long sleeve £9.50.
M&S may not be the cheapest, compared to say Tesco, but I have some M&S tops that I have had for SO long I can't remember when I got them, and they are still like new - no bobbles, no broken lycra ends, no mis-shaping and NO colour fade.
Maybe you spend a couple of quid more, but for basics that can be washed as often as you need, and they still look good, its worth it.
I find Mark One sometimes have some decent stuff and good prices, not fantastic quality, but ok, and some of my Primark stuff has been great. And I have had some great stuff from New Look, but I would have to sasy none of these are as long lasting
As others have said, TK Maxx are great if you can be bothered to rummage.
As for BON PRIX, I will let you know when my order finally arrives! But yes, they are cheap as chips!
My main method is to buy the basics/classics that I where a lot from places such as M&S, Asda, Sainsburys, etc, and then when I need to remember I am forty and NOT frumpy I will have a scout round New Look, etc
Well done on the weight loss!
PS - if you really need a shirt/blouse, then Bravissimmo used to do some special ones that were designed for ample bosoms, a friend got one, and it looked fantastic, flattering, super smart and a proper fit! IIRC they aren't that cheap, but perhaps worth it if you need something special.0 -
I am in more or less the same position myself, having to buy a whole new wardrobe. Only thing is, I've heard bad things about the pay/conditions of the workers who produce Asda, Tesco and Primark clothes, so I wont buy these. Sainsburys usually have a load of nice cheap nice and fairly plain style tshirts that are good for every day. The ones I buy are usually £4, but sometimes are reduced, the last two I got were something like £1.20 each! They also have lots of jeans that are reasonable. Watch the sizing though, it seems to come up big to me. The rest of my stuff usually comes from the car boot, it's a long wait till they start again next year!0

La Redoute's clothes ( catalogue or available online) are a bit different, and good value. Cash back through Quidco too. And once you have bought from them they will keep offering you discounts, making them even better value. (Not allowed to post the codes on this site though - we will get properly told off

I brought some black tunics and shirts from La Redoute but they faded within a month!!
usually they are not bad though.
vouchers can be found on Voucher4U.. .or something similar.. just google it (vouchercodes etc).
Primark are rubbish.. got trousers for £8 or £10 but the material is so thin they collasped in a month! so I don't think they are worth it in the long run.Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
I think primark is brilliant. You gotta look around for the good stuff, but they change their stuff soooo much, one week to the next is different. Never known a shop to change so much!
Have you tried H&M? gotta be careful there too, but some pieces can be a good buy. I often try and shop at H&M, primark, asda, matalan for the cheap scale.
You can also pick up some reasonable priced things in dorothy perkins.0 -

I'll second this, i've ordered a few things from this site and it arrived in no time and was really cheap compared to what you would pay in the shops for the same thing :j0 -
I've found Primark to be pretty good quality. I'm having to tumble dry my clothes at the moment, and the Primark stuff is surviving well. I like Mk 1 too. Clothes from New Look don't seem to be lasting as well though.Live on £11k in 20110
