How do you pay for a child's nursery fees tax free?

Options
I was told Nationwide offer a service where you pay into them for your child's nursery fees then you don't pay tax on it. How do I set this up. I should have done this a long time ago instead of paying girlfriend maintenance directly and her dealing with nursery stuff.

  • Is it the nursery voucher thing that some employers offer?

If it is & you’re an employee of nationwide then speak to your hr dept.

But I’d also speak to the (ex?) girlfriend because if you any the nursery fees in this way won’t she be able to claim the minimum amount of maintenance off you anyway? Also what happens when the child leaves nursery?

I'm wondering if this someone has got their wires crossed.

Actually looking at op's previous threads I wouldn't bother with this one. Not worth my time Googling.

It's a way of reducing your income tax and also a trail to prove you've paid your nursery fees for child. A friend said Nationwide offered it, but may have got that wrong.

Could be vouchers, my friend is employed. I am self-employed.

Why don't you ask Nationwide about it first? Or your friend.

Is your friend employed by Nationwide? Employers can offer child care vouchers to their employees.

Tax-free childcare is being rolled out in stages so it depends how old your children are as to whether you can set it up yet. In time it will fully replace the childcare vouchers scheme which are offered through employers.

The accounts aren't set up with high street banks (like Nationwide), you need to apply directly via the Government website: https://childcare-support.tax.service.gov.uk/

The tax free child care does not reduce tax liability. Payments are made after tax is dedcucted and the government top up the payments in the account.

I think the OP has either been given dodgy info or has misunderstood what he's been told. He doesn't seem to have gone back to the friend for clarification or contacted nationwide to find out directly from them.

    Hasn't been back here either.
