What should I do with my leaded roof?

My flat porch roof is leaded and is leaking badly. I've had it repaired several times unsuccessfully and now plan to get it completely redone, not in lead. What's the best way to handle this re selling the lead? I think it's currently selling at about £1.35 a kg and I estimate there's about a tonne. Will the chap who fixes it expect to sell the lead? If so how do we negotiate this as part of the price of the job? Thanks for any advice.

you sure roof has a ton of lead on it0

If code 5 lead was fitted, a quick calculation in my head (as currently on a train home) says for a tonne your porch roof would be 40 square metres. That’s quite a big porch. Code 4 lead and it would be even bigger.0

Is your property listed ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Are you sure it is lead? A lot of porches have a zinc or aluminium sheet roof. It looks a lot like lead from a distance, but feels very different when you pick it up
If it really is lead then as Robin9 says, is it listed?"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Be prepared for rotting timber.
The modern replacement for lead is tern coated steel - not a job for a general roofer or builder !Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Don't replace it with lead, unless you have to!... listed building, conservation area etc.
We've just had the lead stolen from our porch roof while away on holiday.
This has exposed rotten timber which now needs replacing. The area is only small so I'm looking at a DIY solution using Plywood and fibreglass or possibly fake lead (http://www.flatroofrecovery.co.uk/fake-lead-flat-roofs.html)No longer trainee

I may have overestimated the amount of lead. It's 4m X 3m. We had two lots of roofers up today to look at it. One suggested putting a slope on it and tiling it. Sounds sensible to me. The other one suggested readoing the lead, which were not so keen on will wait to see what the estimates are like.0

It's not listed or in a conservation area. It's very rural and quite isolated so unlikely to get leaf nicked but still prefer not to have lead again.0

you have approx 306kg (code 5) rough guess about £400, I wouldn't redo in lead.0

If you get somebody in to re do the roof make sure you have something in writting regarding the disposal of the old lead.
£400 approx is a lot of money to fall out about.
Fibreglass or whatever they call it nowadays would be the way to go.
