I won't be participating in anything 'special' today, I just view it as a normal day. :)

I realise there are potential bargains to be had but the thought of mega-packed shops does not appeal. They don't really appeal too much at the best of times to me, never mind when its busy.

Chances are in most cases if you are after something you'll find it at about the same price as 'today' anyway at some near future point. If you want a random example I purposely brought a new fan-heater a couple of months ago, even though it was not needed then. The reason simply being I knew I'd need one when it turned cold and you can almost bet it would be a few £ more come Nov/Dec time...

I guess you could say "a bargain is only a bargain if you need it" or such.

It seems to be mostly games consoles and TV's that have lots of frenzy around them. I did think about buying a new mobile that was on offer, but there's nothing up with my current one, so why bother just because it's a bit of a bargain?!

Apart from that I'll browse for some Christmas gifts (not found anything yet) and I've had a couple of things marked for possibly buying this weekemd. However, I only priced them at the start of this week, and neither item is priced any differently, although the pair of boots I was eyeing up is now part of the Black Friday sale. I'll just wait and see if they're any cheaper in January.
  • I don't normally participate but this year I got a new tablet. I was interested in the Kindle fire from last year. I kept an eye on the prices and it was a good discount. My old tablet was very slow and the headphone jack had broken, it was a budget android tablet and I had been using it for 4 years so its not done too badly. I get a lot of use out the tablet, I take it into uni with a Bluetooth keyboard for typing notes in lectures. Ordered it online so no nasty scrums in stores, though I think those scenes are more in the USA.
  • I will be partaking in Not Buying Day as I have for the last couple of years.

I am concerned at the level of hype by the media and companies themselves.

More things does not equal more happiness.

I could get quite upset at this media push. The reason they are doing it is NEVER for the consumers benefit.

    Enjoy your no spending

I only ever buy things I need so I won't be tempted. I didn't even know what Black Friday was until someone was talking about it last year and I had to admit my ignorance!

I do actually need a new laptop so it may be worth having a look today although from the sound of it Black Friday is a bit of a con and the deals aren't anything to write home about.

ETA if anyone sees any good deals for laptops let me know :D

I once went into Manchester on Black Friday. It was before there was so much publicity about it and I was just expecting the usual Friday shoppers. Never again!

There were riots in one of our local supermarkets one year over wide screen TVs. The next day when I went to do the usual Saturday shop the local Foodbank were collecting. It just seemed such a contrast.

We've been wanting to buy a new microwave as our old one has started to rust inside.

I had a look around a few weeks ago to figure out the rough price for a basic but tidy looking model and waited to see if there'd be any real shift in the prices today.

It seems the discounts on the 'better' models are decent enough, but I've just bought us one from tesco direct for under £40 (plus £2 cashback if it tracks) that was one of the one's I was thinking about buying anyway.

For something we only generally use to heat beans, reheat LOs or start off potatoes, it really wasn't worth spending any more on.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

Similar for me about six maybe nine months ago. I went out of my way to find one that was the same size inside and out as the old one, as well as the same power (800w) I could not get an exact 'match' due to the old one being only sold by Comet :rotfl: so its a different brand. Old was 'manual' and the new is 'digital'

Reason for this reply the new one has a little bit less erm 'poke' than the old. The old one if you heated soup up (usual 2 min / stir / then 2 min) , on the second cycle the peas etc would start popping after a minute and it was really 'done' :D , the new one does *need* the full 2 + 2 thing. I think its down to newer tech inside inverter / wave or something but I'm not clued up on it, either than or its more efficient aka takes longer...

May be one of those things like my old was a really good one but it is something to maybe check. :)

No. Not in person as I dislike crowds (it's no fun in a wheelchair as you're pretty much at groin height to everyone else) and not online as I cba with websites so busy that they crash just when you're about to hit the Purchase Now button.

In any case, I'd only bother if it was something I was going to buy anyway.

Offered to take MIL shopping today, forgetting about Black Friday, wasn’t too bad - she got the bits on her list, and I bought the makeup I was intending to buy anyway with 10% off and a few little freebies.

I also bought 2 gifts on the inter web for £20 cheaper than they would have been yesterday, so all in all happy
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

    £300/£130
