Getting a PAC code and cancelling a contract

I am with Talktalk mobile. I want to give 30 days notice to cancel my contract and get a PAC code. However, i was told that I cannot get a PAC code if I give notice to cancel my contract. Also, once I gave my notice, then I'll not be able to get a PAC code. I can get a PAC code now, then once I activate it with my new SIM, from a different provider, then TalkTalk will cancel my contract from that date, with 30 days notice. Basically, I have to pay 30 days for nothing, since, I'll be with the new provider.
Is this right or legal?

If you want to keep the number get a PAC code.
If you don't want to keep the number give 30 days notice.
Either way your contract will state 30 days notice is required.
If you get a PAC code it will start the 30 days notice period, if you don't use it it within the 30 days the contract will continue.
If you use it early then there will be upto 30 days overlap, if you use it around day 28 after you requested it you will overlap for two days, but if you use it on a Friday the transfer will be the following Monday or Tuesday, so an earlier day in the week is usually preferred to use it.0 -

Your notice period is nothing to do with the PAC, you agreed to give 30 days notice when you signed the contract.
PS
PAC stands for Port Authorisation Code, the repetition of the word code isn’t really required...====0 -
If your contract hasn't reached the end of the minimum term at the end of the 30 days you'll be charged a LOT more than part of 30 days; the full cost of the remaining period within the minimum term.0
