Winter Fuel Allowance

Its a heating allowance not a new TV allowance !
If you dont need it send it back.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
It's OK .... don't worry ... st999 is going to put the £200 he saved on his black Friday TV towards his next fuel bill0

Why do people get so het up about the winter fuel allowance - as far as I'm aware, everyone on a pension gets it, which effectively makes it part of your pension. In which case it really doesn't matter what it's called.
I guess it actually costs more to administer than just adding £2 or £4 a week to the basic state pension but it makes a useful lump sum at this time of the year.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Just got my £200 winter fuel allowance in the bank yesterday and very soon I m going out to Sainsburys to exchange it for 20 bottles of 70 cl Bells Whisky which an employee told me are coming on offer this week at £10 .
£10 a bottle for Bells is my top money saving tip this week. Last week it was Grants and the week before it was White and Mackay all at only £10 a pop, with a litre bottle of Grants at only £15 ( £10.50 for 70 cl )
The Sainsbury employee who told me that Bells at £10 was next on the list after Grants and White and Mackay got it slightly wrong when I turned up last night Bells was £12 (normally £16/17 so a good saving ) with White and Mackay now at £11
Only allowed 6 bottles per customer per visit. Must be cheapest Scotch in the UK !0 -
A modern 55" TV dissipates about 100W of heat when operating. I reckon that in a modern well-insulated house it would make a useful room-heating contribution on all but the coldest days. I use my TV for a bit of extra heating during the winter, by not bothering to turn it off when I leave the room for short periods, for example.0

I agree. If you don't need it,send it back.Poor pensioners? No such thing according to this.
Dont know if you are a pensioner but would you be giving some of yours back when you get it, assuming that you've been paying for it for 40-50 yearsNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Originally the Government stated that it would cost less overall to pay everyone at age 60(now 65) than set up a means tested system where applicant's eligibility could change from year to year.
Those eligible still have to claim, and it isn't mandatory to claim!0 -
I never asked for the £200 unlike people asking for the £140 WHD for which I am not eligible.0
