Electricity calculator

I have a new computing device that has a power output of 1150 watts.
How do I work out what my average annual electricity bill might be for this device

How many hours of use / per day ?
How much do you pay per (kwh) unit ?

1150 watts is likely to be a max - what is it?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    1.150 x 24 x 365 x approx 12p a unit = £1200 plus VAT

This is more than a 1 bar electric fire.

As I asked earlier - what is it ? Very few computing devices run at this sort of load.

Yeah, Bitcoin miners run at full load so the above figure of c.£1200 + everything else you run is probably not far away.

The problem with bitcoin miners is to generate them you need a meaty system. They aren't cheap to buy, they aren't cheap to run and they take a while to recoup their purchase costs never mind the electricity costs both for them and everything else too.

If it has an output of 1150 watts then it wont use any power as its generating.

Sadly not. It has a consumption of 1150 watts plus 15%. It’s not all bad news according to the bitcoin website:

According to some calculations, the miner should be mining around Ƀ 0.05968 per month, which translates into $ 171 USD/mo income, electricity fees included. If we don’t take into account Bitcoin price and difficulty fluctuations, the AvalonMiner 741 has a ROI of around 6 months. This does not include the cost of a new PSU.

And it is a 1kW heater.
