    What makes you think that? The OP makes no mention of how long his/her long journey was neither did the OP mention how much fuel He/She put back in.

    The pump price is based on the per litre price of the fuel delivered at time of delivery.

    When the petrol station reaches a given level in their storage tanks, they order a tanker to replenish the fuel levels. The price they pay the refinery reflects the price the customer pays once the tanker has made it's delivery.
