Sky Q

Options
Tempted to upgrade to SkyQ, but is it any good?

The part the interests me most is that you can (apparently?) download your programmes to an iPad and watch them on the move - presumably you can then watch them without an interest connection?

Anything to be wary of? Or anything that isn't quite as "true" or as simple as the adverts say?

  • I had it for a year. Very expensive and buggy.
Not value for money. Netflix is much better value and you can download to a large range of devices for offline viewing.

I didn't realise you could download with Netflix - is that a new thing??

Trouble with Netflix, isn't it generally "older" shows, ie not the current episodes etc?

So you do need data / internet to watch on a tablet/phone, it isn't a case of downloading it at home to watch on the move?

You can transfer recorded content from the Q box to a phone tablet using the Sky Q app however it is subject to rights management so not all content will be transferable.

We've had it for over 10 days now and encountered no problems. We love it and very pleased we took the plunge to have it installed. Been dithering for months but glad we waited until they sorted out teething problems. Plus we were given very good deal by Sky as we were out of contract.

You can download recordings from q app planner to device which doesn’t; need any connection.
Limited to storage on your device.
Live t.v. Streaming requires WiFi or data.
I’ve only tried one or 2 to ipad as I use WiFi or data whilst home.
It’s a few hundred gig per programme maybe more.
Approx 528mb 1 episode the tunnel sabotage downloaded to ipad

We've had Sky Q for a year, now, and it's great.

Any odd problems (usually 'lost connectivity' ) have been easily sorted by a simple re-boot.

There's only the 2 of us, but we have very different viewing tastes, so it's great to be able to record more than one programme at the same time.

We don't have sports or movies - so we pay £50 per month for the box sets package. Yes, I know that some people will chirp up that other providers are cheaper, but what we have suits us.

Downloading has been available for a little while now. Netflix have some superb original content as well as old stuff. £9.99 a month you can have 4 screens at once and your not limited by the amount of devices you can use in a month like with Sky and you get 4K.
For any sky programs we just get NowTv when ever we want. Which for me is only a few months a year for GOT and Billions.
Im saving a packet and I’m not tied into any contract.
