IS LEGAL COVER WORTH ADDING TO CAR iNSURANCE?
I always get Comprehensive Car Insurance and always pay for the Legal Cover. Now the Legal Cover costs around £30 and Car Insurance is rising astronomically I am beginning to wonder whether I really need to add it.
Do YOU always add on the Legal Cover and if so why?
Do YOU never add on the Legal Cover and if so why?
It would help enormously to know what the majority of other people do.

The main use of the legal cover is if you are injured in an accident and want to pursue an injury claim. Having legal cover means you keep 100% of compensation. Without legal cover a no win no fee solicitor would take up to 25% of your damages.
Also useful for getting your excess and other losses back if liability is disputed.0 -

Not that useful apparently as they will only take on cases with a good chance of winning. If its disputed they might just back off and leave you on your own. It does also cover you for certain motor prosecutions but only the more serious ones.0 -
I'm a member of the CSMA. Legal cover is included with the subscription.
I had to use it once to claim my excess and other losses back when liability was disputed. I got everything back, but it took about seven months.0 -
How can they back off if you have paid for their services?0

Over the years, I have used the legal insurance once. Someone ran into me, and their insurers were in no hurry to pay out. So I set the legal people on them.
But the yearly fee is excessive. I suspect one day it will turn into another PPI scandal. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
NOT SURE to BE HONEST :P0

That's what I have been thinking Ectophile - at one time it was so much cheaper you didn't think twice about adding it - I wonder whether there is legal cover which would cover both home and car etc. Must investigate.0

Until you need it, it may seem like an un-necessary expense. However, when you need it....Only once so far, woman reversed into our car while parking, played silly B's about details etc. Long story short, having offered her to settle for the £220 parts cost (which I'd bought and fitted), ended up at court, her insurers didn't show so we won, and got a cheque for about £650 (loss of use etc). However, it took a year.0

Never buy it, for me insurance is about mitigating unaffordable loss and keeping legal. Legal cover is just another complicated product with lots of terms and conditions that can exclude the cover you assumed you had. Better to just know that your not covered and deal with it when it happens.0
