I don't have experience of this Wannabe but I didn't want to read and run. Is this an account you knew about, and if so do you agree with what they are claiming? x

It's this year's council tax Cherry. 19/20 Council tax.

I have no idea I'm just worried and in a panic. I posted over on the benefits board but maybe I shouldn't have :o It's scary crossing over from here.

The benefits board probably has someone who can help if we don't come up with anything. Meanwhile you may be able to play for time with a letter stating your position and maybe asking if this bill could be treated the same way as the arrears on the old account.

Also it doesn't seem much notice to give for someone to come up with that amount so there may be some way to put things on hold because of this.

Must dash as I'm off to work but I'll check back - you are more likely to get replies from teatime onwards when more people are about.

I hope today's treatment for youngest goes as well as possible. Not so long to go now. x

Cant understand why your UC payments would vary as you dont work so have to say I am confuddled. £300 is a fair whack.

    Thank you cherry x

Beanie. My UC changed when my rent amount changed (less than £10 a month difference) The only other change has been the deeuctions for the overpayments from previous benefits. When I first claimed they took £125ish a month. Then in October this changed to £95ish a month. They still take £95ish now but it's split differently than originally. There's been no other changes.

I didn't get it resolved. I'm going to pay it with this months rent money. Then speak to the housing to sort that. Then send a letter to find out where I'm going wrong with it and make sure it's right and what I need to do going forward.

I'll be back with an update on youngest once everyone's finished eating and are in bed.

Surely those changes would not mean a debt of £300 to CT.
    I am confuddled.
Has the figure been checked to make sure it's correct?

I really don't think it can be. I don't see how. I don't know why it would change.

    The letter says

XXX Council has asked to issue a summons against you because
you have not paid the amount of Council Tax shown below.
The hearing will take place at XXX XXX Magistrates' Court ,
    Xxx Street, xxx, xxx
    On xxx
At the hearing an application will be made for a liability order to be issued against you.
If you do not come to court, the hearing will continue without you.

    In respect of (my address)
    Period - 01 04 19 - 31 03 20
    Amount £224.27

    Then at the bottom

    Council tax due £224.27
    Court costs £83
    Council costs £
    Total amount £307.27

    Please note:-
you may also have other balances on your account that are not included in this arrangement.

    The Court Hearing
You have the right to attend the hearing to present your case to the Magistrates if you wish but
please ensure you bring proof of identification (preferably photographic).

Proceedings can only be stopped in some circumstances, for example:
pay in full, including the costs, before the Court date
provide sufficient evidence to the Council Tax Office that you are not liable for the charge
bankruptcy or winding up proceedings have been started against you
an administration order which includes this charge has been made by the County Court
it is more than six years since you have had a bill for this charge
If any of the above applies to you or you have any other queries please contact the Council Tax Office
before the hearing date. Contact details are shown on the front of this summons.

Applications for Council Tax Support, discounts, exemptions or
appeals against charges will not stop proceedings.

    The next steps
If you do not pay in full before the Court Hearing date, the Council will apply for a liability order.
A liability order gives the Council the power to:
Pass your debt to the enforcement agents (bailiffs) for them to collect.
Arrange to have money deducted from your earnings if you are in paid employment.
Arrange to have money deducted from your benefit

Well that didn't copy very well. I think I've blocked out anything that's personal details though.

Anyway youngest update before my phone dies.

I don't want to tempt fate. So have tried to be as brief as possible so far. But after a rocky few days nearer the start it's going amazing so far. Not getting my hopes up too much (total lie. I am) it will make an absolute massive difference going forward if this continues. We will have a better chance at sleep. At doing normal things. Just everything. So a lot is counting on this continuing as well as it is. There's no signs at all yet to say it won't. Everything's on track. No major set backs. Nothing that can't be classed as 'minor' changes. Fingers and everything else crossed this continues. So without rambling on too much it's going well. Better than expected really.
