W, why would anyone take offence? We all attach dreams and wishes to our children and when anything doesn't go to plan, we grieve. That's because we want the best for them and hate to see them suffering (whether it's illness, choices, accidents - all sorts of things get in the way of that ideal that we are socialised into). However, you are giving her lots of love and care and the milestones will still be there, just not necessarily where they might be if everything had gone smoothly.

I work with adults with complex needs, and I have had people say to me (as they might say to you) 'I don't know how you do it'. The answer is that if I only looked at one side of things, I couldn't, but I know that not a work day goes by when I'm not making those lives better. If that's true for me, it's doubly true for you as a parent. You are making all the difference to her life at the same time as dealing with so many other things that we don't even know about. You are allowed to feel it's tough, because it is, but hang on to the fact that you are also making life better for her than anyone else could do.

As you say, she's little but already amazing! She will develop strengths that you don't yet know about, and having to struggle, she will be a stronger person and her brother and sister will have qualities that they would never otherwise have had, as well. I know that because I've been there myself.

I hope the rest of her birthday goes well and she continues to get better as the day goes on. Thanks for making time to get back here and let us now what's going on. Hugs!

Not offended at all and perfectly natural reaction. Much as you love your little one I am sure you would rather she was healthy and didn't have to face all these obstacles. Life is just unfair sometimes.

I can't see why anyone would be offended by your post WF. It's how you feel and you're entitled to that. It is unfair that she has so much to deal with and the worry it causes you but she's got a happy, loving home and a fantastic mum in you. I hope she has a lovely day, I'm sure you'll make sure she does xx

Hope DD had a good birthday. I'd feel exactly the same if I was in your shoes. I don't know why anyone would be offended xx
