EDF slow to refund credit

Hi
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post so hope I am posting in the correct area. I have about £250 credit on my EDF account and they are taking ages to refund it. I requested a refund over a week ago and have rung twice as it has not appeared in my account. Rang again today and was told that no refund had been processed. Lots of apologies as the chap I spoke to could see that I had requested the refund and followed up with another phone call. He says he has made the refund but it will now take another 3-5 working days to show on my account. I am now overdrawn because of this. EDF seem to be a hopeless company. They seem to bill me differently every time (hence the credit on my account) and sending in meter readings, even slightly late makes this even worse. Has anyone else had trouble like this with them?

I'm not sure you are, I think you're overdrawn because you had more going out that into your bank account this month. Its not like you paid the £250 to them in error.
They have advised 3-5 working days, so if it isn't with you next Monday, give them another call.Dwy galon, un dyhead,

Can you keep your character evaluations to yourself please. The reason I had more going out of my account than in is because EDF overcharged me by £250. If they had not done this I would not be overdrawn. They have already taken 5 days to refund and they now say it will take another 3-5 days. I had hoped this forum was a safe place for helpful advice but perhaps that's not the case.

It is not unusual to be in credit at the start of Winter and this is not 'overcharging'. As I type, I have a credit of c.£150 on my gas supply account which I expect to be zero at the end of the Winter period. One of the unintended consequences of asking for a credit refund is the possibility of an increase in your monthly DD payments. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I was £540 in credit and was then £250 in credit immediately after paying my bill. Surely that's a bit excessive?0

It depends on two factors. One, did you use an accurate annual projection in kWhs when the DD was agreed? Two, your annual cost. I expect to use 75% of my total annual gas consumption in the period December to March. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. OP are you paying by Direct Debit or quarterly?0

I pay monthly and I used the bills from our previous provider to predict kWhs so pretty accurate I think.0

If your last bill was £290 for Aug to Nov, personally I don't think that £250 is an excessive credit balance in mid Nov. Your Nov to Feb bill could well be more than double the Aug to Nov bill.0
