O/S Daily Monday 20th November 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, brussels, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - all lovely and clean plates all round. Some LO's of mash and yorkshires. Tonight dinner is likely to be smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in a creme fraiche sauce.
Weekend has been chilled, although I worked Saturday morning, we had surprise family visitors on Saturday afternoon and they stayed for quite a while which was lovely for us to have a catch up. Yesterday was a lazy day, the boys went visiting their grandparents, whilst I prepped and cooked the lunch and the pack ups for today. Both him and me are still not great, he'll be going back to Dr's on Thursday, he decided he didn't need to last week but now realises that he should have gone. Although he is improved to what he was, and again last night I noticed he's not coughing during the night like he was.
So I've got some annual leave this week, so I'll be trying to work my way through the "to do" list, I will get as much done as possible. This morning I'll be heading into town to visit the building society and then stop off at MrT to buy a bday prezzie for my nephew, I need to get that sent today as it's late.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone
It’s a bit nippy here this morning. I changed the time the heating comes on in the mornings yesterday afternoon because I’m getting up earlier where I’m not sleeping at the moment and it has been really cold. I’ve just discovered that I have set it wrong so I got up to a really cold house. I’m already on my second cup of tea trying to warm myself up.
I managed to get some housework done yesterday and hope to feel up to giving the kitchen a really good clean this morning.
It’s raining at the moment but if it stops fairly soon I want to wander to the supermarket. I’m not eating much at the moment but have got a craving for some stolen. This is the one seasonal treat I really like and prefer it to Christmas pudding and often have it with custard.
Hugs to those having a difficult time, particularly Dumpling and Becky.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning all
Seem very cold here this morning so much so that it was very difficult to get out of bed, little Evie is still tucked up under the duvet and we wont see her till its time to go !
Its my mums 80th Birthday today she is away though so I will text her during the day and ring her this evening, she has gone to see her niece as both my sister and I are working this week, (we don't count my brother as he is useless but the golden boy ! which sounds familiar with a lot of you ) I think we are going out for dinner when he gets back.
Dinner tonight will be some lamb shanks and mash and veg Im looking forward to it.
Started to empty the kitchen yesterday just packed up a lot of the things we don't use everyday and have put it in the little room off of the main bedroom, will do a bit more tonight so that next week we are not having to empty it before we start.
right better get on have good days all xx0 -
morning folks and thanks NMLC. It was forecast to be milder and they are right. The forecast rain hasn't arrived yet.
NANNYWINDOW I hope you are feeling calmer this morning. You rant away all you want. I have walked in your shoes with my mum. Especially her last 15 years when she had Parkinsons and dementia. All the suppressed feelings that had built up over the years were released and I alternated between rage and tears the way she spoke to me.
No plans for today but I keep promising myself that I will attack the kitchen cupboards "sometime" and get rid of lots of stuff cluttering them up. There is a limit to how many mugs, plates, dishes etc we need, not to mention all the kitchen gadgets bought with good intentions which have never been used!
A reasonably easy cooking day ahead. There is a pile of mash and a bowl of veg left from yesterday so just need to find something in the freezer to go with them. Lunch will be the usual soup and sarnie or I might live dangerously and do paninis!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for those wanting/needing them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
We're having a lazy start to the day here, hubby is on the late shift so I'll take him to work at lunchtime, then I need to collect my 3year old dgd twins from nursery and keep them occupied until dd get home from a training course.
I need to collect hubby from work sometime between 8 and 10 depending on what the powers that be have decided for this week.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning all
Thanks for starting us off nmlc
Cold here this morning and it's raining.
Nannywindow, rant away. My mother is up there with the best/worst and she definitely hasn't improved with age
Went shopping yesterday and they had free samples. DH asked if he could try some. Oh dear, lovely lady said yes help yourself and he did. Must have eaten equivalent to half a box of chocolates, I was so embarrassed he was so happy.
Hope you all have a good day.If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning everyone.
The forecasted rain for yesterday only appeared overnight so the fields are back to being marshland. It's cold and very rainy, but not lashing down stuff but more like heavy drizzle, the very wet misty rain.
My DM has been difficult my whole life and is only now mellowing with age. My view of it is that she had to work hard to survive the awful war years, knew what she had to do to achieve a better life and went for it. I found her too hard to live with from my early years, we clashed about almost everything, and I left home at 16. That's not to say she didn't love me entirely, however her focus was definitely on my brother most of the time, as it turns out he was an Asperger sufferer and needed the attention! Now we rub along very happily, thank goodness.
Today I'll be heading into the 'office' to do some work, it's much warmer there and saves me loading the woodburner. The cleaner is coming too and I like to be out when she's here. I need to do a little tidying up before I go, just some stuff to go into the little barn, Christmas goodies and wine.
I hope everyone stays warm and well. Happy Monday to all.0 -
Morning
Grey and miserable here today perfect weather for a Monday
Taken some time off ...probably just a week ...but have lots to do around the house.
Got my first christmas pressy yesterday :j good job I dont have many to get as I am really awful at deciding. Most of my friends and family are quite happy to spend the money on a nice meal out instead of something you really dont want or need but this was a secret santa for my one and only christmas do with my book club friends.
Glad Im a celebrity is back ...agony to watch them on the plank last night you wouldn't get me up there for any meal would rather starve
Food today is something dark and mysterious from the depths of the freezer who knows what.
nannywindow sorry you had to put up with that from your Dad ...its horrible how insensitive some parents can become I understand totally. mine could teach "how to offend and upset" classes she is so skilled at it
Have a good day if you can :A0 -
Morning everyone,
Late today as slept in, my cough has ramped up and went to bed feeling lousy, it was all I could do to get Lulu in from her field etc
Plans for today is to rest up as much as possible ahead of a busy few days, the washing is piling up but have tucked it all in the spare room, out of sight out of mind hopefully!
Food wise I picked up one of the crustless quiche things the other day which had been reduced down so have taken it out if the freezer, we have plenty of veg to go wth.
I love those stollen slices too Holly whose do you buy as they can be expensive?
Hugs to all struggling, especially Nannywindow have a good day folks x0 -
Morning everyone,

I have tried just about every own brand from Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi and the branded ones and I always come back to the M&S ones every year. What it is for me, is that they seem to be moister and a bit more squigy if you see what I mean.
Have no problem in paying for qualityand have been disappointed in the past so will pick some up next time am in Mr Sparks. Thanks x
