Charged extra after collection - UPS & Parcel2Go

Ok i haven't actually been charged myself, thankfully, but this has annoyed me a bit. I tried looking for a contact for Parcel2Go but i mustn't be looking hard enough because i can't find it - surely they must have a contact option?

Basically i booked through Parcel2Go & selected UPS. Cheaper than going direct. Put in the dimensions & weight (it was 26kg).
I must have missed something along the way because after i paid i noted that the item had to be in a cardboard box and couldn't have shrink wrap on the outside. Not sure why as it was fine as it was but rules are rules i guess so i went out & had to get cardboard & duck tape and set to it. Thankfully i was generous with the dimensions and it was still within that afterwards.

Then after the buyer got the parcel & left their positive feedback i get an email through from Parcel2Go...
Thank you for your recent order with Parcel2Go.

We’ve received notification from your chosen courier UPS that your recent parcel ############### has incurred an additional charge.

This means that UPS have billed us an additional charge of £9.50 Here are the details of the order:

Name of Charge Description Declared Measurements Actual Measurements Cost Additional Handling Length
  • Any parcel with the longest side exceeding 150 cm

£7.00 Administration Fee Due to the increased cost in processing misdeclarations, which include identifying and handling the the parcel, an administration charge has been added to the total cost.

£2.50

TOTAL £9.50

What i sent was a roll & the above is nonsense. Laying the roll down on the floor the end of it measured about 25cm-x-25cm off the top of my head. I've since been & measured another roll & it's only 130cm in length. There's no variation in length, the rolls are the rolls. Sure with packaging you may get some that are 131cm, 132cm but the packaging simply will not add on 20cm to the length of the roll, it just wont, never mind more than 20cm.

Thankfully Parcel2Go didn't charge me but it's still annoying that they're making this up.

I know i should probably let it go since i've not been charged but it's bloody irritating to be told you did something wrong when you didn't do what they're saying you did.

Is there really not any way to contact Parcel2Go & tell them this is nonsense?

You can appeal it but they need proof. I had the same problem with Parcel Hero and UPS. Constantly saying the size was wrong. I did appeal but they said they need proof. What proof, they did not know. Ironically since using UPS with Parcel2go, I have not had any problems
  • Well i guess i can't offer any proof then.

I can photo the same item with a tape measure running the length but if they want to play silly games then i guess it'd be like measuring say a 50p coin where you show the dimensions. They could reply - yeah that's the dimensions of THAT 50p coin, but the one you sent was 50000 times bigger than that, prove that it wasn't.

At least i didn't get billed directly. It's just annoying that the next time (that they may have let it go) they wont let it go because of this time. Clearly someone not qualified in the art of tape measure usage.

Not P2Go but another company said I had used too much tape on a parcel and they had to manually process it. I said this was nonsense and they asked me to send proof by way of a picture of the parcel (3 weeks after it had been delivered).
A few years back when I had an account with a courier I had one driver who didn't like me and made a point of checking every parcel we sent for being over size or over weight (a lot of the boxes were at the weight limit), he managed to get me on one going about 100g over 30kg. They actually charged me and gave me the box back.
The problem with the third party sellers is that they add their own surcharge and the courier's without passing on any evidence that they've received the charge.

If I remember right I'd got him into trouble for not collecting from us. A couple of times he said there was no one there when he called and we were. He got the benefit of the doubt the first time but the second was impossible.
We weren't too far from the depot so this driver spent most of his day there and only got sent out on a few jobs. He was a lazy *person*.
I remember we had a relief driver when he was on holiday who kept going on how easy the job was.
