Hoover dryer issue

Hello MSE,

I am after some advice regarding a Hoover condenser dryer and if we have enough recourse to go about returning it as not fit for purpose.

In September we bought a Hoover aqua vision condenser Dryer, it is the one with the water container in the door.

3 days after purchasing it we noticed the water container plastic had cracked. The cracks are in the plastic and not near any of the edges. It had not been dropped. We contacted Hoover who stated that it was unusual and they sent out a replacement free of charge.

This replacement lasted only a few weeks before the plastic cracked again. This time Hoover stated it was not covered under their 12month warranty (apparently this only covered electrical or mechanic parts) or the extended warranty we purchased and argued that d&g needed to provide them with a job number. D&g stated because the machine is less than 12 months old Hoover should cover it. Back and forth we went, in the end d&g gave us a job number and said they would argue with Hoover.

The replacement came the other day and it has already begun to crack in the plastic. It is a nightmare. The containers still hold the water and only drip when cracked but the plastic is obviously not up to the job or there is something wrong with the dryer.

What would the next step be?

We bought the dryer from an independent retailer.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Hoover may have chosen to offer a 12 month warranty. But your legal rights are always with the retailer.

If you paid by credit card, or bought it on credit, then the credit company are jointly liable with the retailer.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • We've had same problem with a Hoover Dynamic Condenser tumble dryer which we bought 11 months ago. Same water container on the door. It's been replaced now at least 10 times, first time it happened the machine was a month old. Hoover told us the same that the warranty didn't cover it so we had to take a plan out with D&G.The water condenser has been replaced 3 times due to not been able to get it back in due to cleaning it. Engineer has been out 3 times and replaced the thermostat and heater. Getting sick to my back teeth with it. It must be a common fault because the new machines the water container is now at the bottom.
    What was your outcome?

Under the consumer rights act, the retailer has only one attempt to repair before you are entitled to a refund. See https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act and the 'repair or replace' section.

Have you been through the retailer or did you go direct to Hoover initially? Or did you go to the retailer and get told to take it up with Hoover?
  • Hi
Did you get any joy with your dryer. We are going through same issue. We have an engineer coming out to say if it is unfit for use but I'm sure they will quote the water tank as a consumable item.
