One way car rental

Having booked a holiday now, we will be travelling via Manchester and returning to London - there was significant price difference which made this a easy option to book. However I now have to look for a one way car rental. Before I go ahead and book it I thought if anyone knows easier option - train with london transfers to Euston is costlier.
Does anyone know any particular car hire that charges lower return fees if the Car is returned elsewhere? Or any suggestion about what other options to look for?

How many of you are going?
If you are just a couple price up rail fare with a two together railcard, which costs £30 cash but £15 in Tesco vouchers, or if you're taking the family, price it up with a family railcard.
Also when are you travelling? The cheap rail fares are released 12 weeks before the travel date & will probably be cheaper than those fares on offer now0 -
one way car rental wont be cheap0

Two Together railcards might save money.
Avis sometimes do very cheap one way car hire to reposition their fleet. Tends to be summer months though.0 -
15th Dec so inside 12 wks. Its 2 + 1 (10yr old). Surprisingly just the ticket prices are £10 cheaper than the car rental - our transfers to Euston will cost much more than that. I know I will have to pay it - just thought I'll find out if there is a clever way to do it.0

Rail card saves £10 incl. cost of card - although we don't use trains at all so will need to consider that. Worry is to moving couple of bags through London underground, although it will be late Friday evening.0

Yes, Bus is cheapest option but would be anywhere from 6-7 hrs for the end to end journey - haven't discounted it yet though. I am working the day we start - so bit difficult.0

Lots of people move luggage on underground all the time so that shouldn't be an issue just try and avoid rush hour if you can - although again lots of people do have luggage so not unusual!
Have you tried splitting tickets? May get something cheaper?0 -

If the car rental is the route that you go, look and see if the hire car firm has a branch close enough but not an actual airport branch, sometimes a taxi from the hire car place is cheaper than the premium.0
