Probably the same as what Amazon do with the hundreds (thousands?) of returns they get on a weekly basis.

Stick them on the Amazon Warehouse section after deducting an amount from the returnee for the decreased value?

Exactly, or the Argos equivalent. I have never had a deduction made by Amazon for returning used items.

And one day you might find that you no longer have an Amazon account. Plenty of threads on here where customers have had their accounts closed for a high return rate/ abuse of their returns policy - and this can extend to anyone at the same address with an account.

I would take it back to a different Argos store if possible.
Don't mention if asked if it has been 'used' just be honest & say it is too heavy.
I have found & read on here that different stores have different attitudes to returns.
