Not sure what the difference is between the dot v1 and v2 if any.

But im sure you could sell it on ebay after for more than you paid. I know there were £35 last year on the BF deal, Still selling for £40+ on ebay used at the time.

I am going blind and only going to play music but the main reason is to listen to my audio books.

I got mine primarily to use as an internet radio as it was cheaper and better sound quality - as a bonus it can stream my amazon "auto-ripped" cds - very happy with it.
  • Just bought one as they were on offer and had some money in my Amazon account (thanks to Swagbucks!) - now wondering what I should use it for. First thoughts are for listening to podcasts, but any other hints and tips very gratefully received!
  • I still giggle at the f4rt "skill" :rotfl:

Do you really want a device in your home storing every word you say, comment you make, your views on things to be analysed and reported on?

    No?

Then buy an Amazon Echo, because it doesn't do the above!

Shhh don't let the wife know.. Told her it listens and records everything. Life has never been so peaceful :)

Dont forget the stories "one simple hack can your your echo into a spying device"

When you actually read the story you have to allow someone access to teh device they need to open it and flash firmware onto it and it only affects 2015/2016 models. If someone has access to your property and time to open and flash the echo im sure they could just fit a transmitter anyway. Or several transmitters all over your house.

Want some free airfresheners or some free smoke alarms?

Answer yes and I guess you're okay with the governments snoopers charter.

for every echo, dot and show in the world Amazon would need thousands and thousands more datacenters just to store all that info. each device would be sending 168 hours of audio to them each week, not to mention members of staff for each unit working 24/7 to listen in to what your saying lol.

I bet you were worried when thae telephone came out and that you could be listened in on at will by the operator.

No, it can be used as the centre of a complete voice operated home automation system with some extra bits and pieces.
