What happens to VED on sale or transfer of vehicle?

It's in the seller's interest to inform the DVLA as soon as possible - they don't want to get your speeding tickets or parking charges.
You might also find that some insurance companies won't be happy if you're not the registered keeper. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I have a strange one. Bought car from dealer 3 weeks ago and still no new reg document. Dealear stated DVLA processing but not sure I believe. Taxed when purchase complete and car car shown as taxed. How long would you expect DVLA to process new registration.0 -

I would expect up to 6 weeks0 -
This has been the situation for a couple of years now, and you STILL see cars being advertised with '9 months MoT and tax'.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

Because there are a lot of people around that should've listened at school ie stupid and people preying on the stupid. I have pointed out many times on local Facebook selling pages that VED does not transfer on to the new owner only to be met with abuse.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

My wife bought a new (to her) car a couple of weeks ago. The car was untaxed at the dealer. Test drive on trade plates and the tax was paid for when she paid the deposit. She has a personal plate and the dealer handled the transfer. The new V5 arrived four days later.0 -

I traded in my old car which also had a private plate. I then put my plate on retention with the new V5 for my old car arriving with me 4 days later, I then posted this off to the dealer after advising DVLA on line that vehicle sold to dealer. I received confirmation that my number plate held on retention and old vehicle now sold to dealer about a week after buying my new vehicle.0
