Well thumbs up to Debenhams. A full refund on to a gift card with two years to spend it. Hurrah.

And thumbs down to M&S as indeed the top had been reduced in the sale to £10 when MIL bought it, and apparently they would have told her that she only had 14 days to return it.

Unfortunately she bought it more than two weeks before my birthday so there was never any chance of a full refund. I was offered £2.49 which was the final sale price.

Surely, a company adhering to their own policy doesn't deserve a thumbs down, does it?

MIL is old school. She no doubt bought it thinking I could just take it back for a credit note or refund if it didn't fit as it's M&S.

The top blatantly wasn't for her. I'm sure they did mention the returns policy on sales items, but she probably didn't realise at the time that the 14 days would be up before she had even given me the gift. Maths isn't her strong point!

They did indeed change their policy a few months ago, so were sticking to their own rules, but I just find it really frustrating taking something back brand new with labels intact and a receipt and yet they'll only give me a fraction of the price.

Maybe thumbs down is a bit harsh, but I guess I just expected more from M&S.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

There is a very important lesson to be learned from this post.

    Mothers-in-law shouldn't buy clothes for daughters-in-law.

About 40 yrs ago my mother bought a top for my ex. For some reason she did not like the top and never wore it.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Lol yup! I'm also VERY tall and long in the body, so getting tops to fit is hard work!

She does the same for her daughter!

She did buy me a gorgeous cashmere shawl last year, so it's not all bad!!
