Trusteer Rapport

  • Rapport is NOT a requirement by any bank - despite some implying that you have to use it.
One thing that no one seems to have mentioned is that you give "Rapport" permission to check ALL of your visited websites if "they" feel there might be an issue (whatever that might mean!). I used it once, and it was the devil's own job to remove it! I suggest to ANY potential user, that you don't: just make sure that you follow a security regime - that we all should be familiar with , by now!

This software gets itself stuck in a loop in my experience where it constantly claims it's disabled (in Firefox, Chrome or whatever) despite the fact I can see the icon in an enabled state and enabled from its control panel. But despite all this, its insistent it is disabled in the current browser no matter how often it was removed and reinstalled.

So in the end I solved the problem - primarily by getting shot of the damn thing.

Reading this thread jogged my memory - have been having slowness with my browser for a month or so and couldn't identify what I'd installed that might be a cause. Until I thought just now that TR might be a candidate (had reinstalled it recently).

But having uninstalled it a few times in the past, this time it hasn't proved so easy. Got redirected to an IBM web page after the uninstall failed:
Rapport includes anti-removal protection to prevent malware from removing it from your computer. This is the reason for the complex uninstall process. In some rare scenarios the uninstaller is unable to shut down the anti-removal protection and as a result fails to remove Rapport.

    What's Next?

We have a special utility that safely removes Rapport from your computer - for downloading the utility, please fill out the following form. You will automatically receive an email with the download link for the utility.
    *sigh*

[edit: at least that utility seems to have removed it]
  • I know this is an old thread, but I've only just stumbled across it. I have always refused to install Trusteer Rapport as I have concerns about privacy. The EULA (which some people may not have read!) includes this statement:

"You may choose to send IBM information collected by the Program only when the Program detects critical security vulnerabilities. Choosing this option will result in less protection for your computer. Note that the Program does not enable You to choose to never send collected information or to choose to never allow IBM to remotely direct the Program to send information to IBM, which would significantly weaken the protection for your computer. If you do not want Rapport to send any information, you must uninstall Rapport"

So IBM can remotely tell Rapport on my computer to send them whatever they want it to. In my view, that is legalised malware. No thank you.

Agreed. Why would anyone want to install key-logging software, no matter how 'safe' they claim it is?

    Santander are still pushing it:(

So don't install it then. Simples. Santander online banking still works without it. Just dismiss the notification.
  • Like others here, I've found Rapport slows down computers and sometimes it would just stop working altogether. Glad to see banks like NatWest focusing on alternative security technologies. Shame Santander is still so smitten with Rapport.
