Don't rely on the court to tell you. Phone up and ask. Someone's posted about that just this morning. They had to chase, and it turned out the fee hadn't been paid. If they hadn't chased they may not have found out.Although a practising Solicitor, my posts here are NOT legal advice, but are personal opinion based on limited facts provided anonymously by forum users. I accept no liability for the accuracy of any such posts and users are advised that, if they wish to obtain formal legal advice specific to their case, they must seek instruct and pay a solicitor.0

Thanks all.
Just had another letter from CEL offering the chance to pay a lower fee instead of going to court. Sounds like desperation to me!0 -
Is it this one that we know about from all the other CEL threads?

Nothing is new on this forum and your discontinuance will happen like it always does.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Just want to thank everyone for all the help, just had confirmation from the court that the claimant hasn't paid the £25 and the case has been dropped.
Surprised the courts don't put something in place to track how many they start but never go through with, must be wasting loads of money on our courts admin to never go through with it!0 -
But HMC&TS have already had a £25 filing fee from CEL, so they have at least been paid something for their trouble.starnold444 wrote: »Surprised the courts don't put something in place to track how many they start but never go through with, must be wasting loads of money on our courts admin to never go through with it!0 -
True but such a waste of courts time and resources. Surprised the government is not looking into this part of it0

CEL are unique in the approach of discontinuing though - all other PPCs proceed. Some may pull out on a case by case approach, but generally they just proceed with everything. The point is that they save money on the legals - employ numpties to provide a cheap roboclaim service, they don't even read the defences or evidence, and spend the money on cheap legal reps at court. The ones they lose, and even the ones they win, are loss leaders, but proportionately so few actually get to court that they are making more money by doing it this way. It is sharp practice, as is CEL discontinuing every case at the last minute, but I'm not sure how far that would get because someone would have to look at the data to see if the claim is true, and that's probably been made impossible by GDPR.
See my post 6 here which explains it in more detail:
