O/S Daily Wednesday 15th November 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 still in his pit and he won't be going into work today, he struggled on yesterday and did a full day, but he's clearly unwell with the lurgy spent another small fortune yesterday on meds etc, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly as he starts his work experience today.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and beans, tonight we'll be having gammon, egg, roasted new potatoes, and peas.

Work yesterday was a strange day, quiet at times, but then manic, an all or nothing sort of day. Working all day today as doing the extra hours this afternoon, I'm then on days' off but working Saturday morning, then I have some holiday and I'm off alll next week and the following Monday, back to work on the Tuesday - I'll be using this time to get the xmas cakes made, xmas puds made, xmas shopping done, and hopefully will be giving the house a bit of a once over as it's a pit, so a busy week.

Keep safe and well x

Cold but dry out this morning, washing just about to finish and it will hang on the pulley - Gers, I really don't think I could have managed without it, thank you.

Thanks for a great idea Cranky but I have sourced some vaccines in Glasgow so will head there after work. No 1ml vials available so had to get the prescription changed to two .5 vials. This now makes 4 injections, could be interesting as I really hate needles!

Your commute yesterday sounded wonderful Gers but quite a long day for you.
A trip back to the Drs for your DH nmlc?

    Happy Wednesday! Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's too dark to see what the weather is doing yet but Steve put the gas card on this morning so at least I can put the heating on today if necessary.

I heard from Becky's doctors finally yesterday and she isn't going to be allowed home this weekend for some leave. I am bitterly disappointed and many tears have been shed. I miss her so much, the whole house has a different atmosphere because of her absence. Anyway, I have to ring Camhs this morning and see if they can help with me going to visit her. I can't get there on my own and it's a nightmare journey involving 2 buses, three trains and a taxi there and then obviously reversing that all the way back home. Unfortunately, Jemima is working all weekend and her car isn't too reliable anyway and my sister is away all weekend too or else she would have taken me. Hopefully something will be sorted out.

Lilly's friend is sleeping over tonight so I will be giving the house a quick tidy although Lilly's room itself is an absolute pit in which you cannot see the carpet for all the clothes and books. I refuse to touch it so she is going to have to get it cleaned up when she gets back from college.

I am making chilli and jacket potatoes for tea tonight. I will crack on with the chilli in a minute as it tastes nicer the longer it is left. I also have to do an online food shop for the weekend.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Gosh it's mild this morning - no heating on nor is it going on!

Had a lovely day out yesterday and the weather stayed fine for us. Got the bus to Otley as planned and picked up a few bargains on the little market, including more stockfillers, Slim pickings in the cs, the only thing catching my eye was yet another book I didn't need! Backtracked to Ilkley and a quick browse of the cs and the posh pet shop on The Grove - I could not believe what I was seeing in there! Small bottles of non-alcoholic wine (including a Prosseco) for cats and dogs!!! I have seen it all now! Enjoyed a lovely late lunch of an enormous plateful of gammon, egg, chips etc - yummy.

Must get a few jobs done today and scramble back on that healthy eating wagon that I keep falling off! It's one day on and one day off at the moment which is getting me nowhere.

DS and GF are flying to Cape Verde this morning for a week in the sun. Should be boarding any time now.

We have the 3 DGDs here for tea after their ballet and badminton, then the usual sleepover and school run in the morning. Yet to christen tea which they all arrive for at different times so needs to be something quick and easy. Freezer rummage ahead.

Have a good day folks if you can with ((HUGS)) for those needing/wanting them. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Thank you for starting us off nmlc.

dumpling ((hugs)) I'm so sorry that Becky won't be coming home for a visit this weekend. I really feel for you, I can only imagine how hard this must be for you as a mother and how much you are missing her.

I managed to get back to some sort of healthy eating yesterday after the cake fest on Monday. I’ve just got a portion of chicken stew out of the freezer to defrost for dinner tonight, and will have that with some steamed veg. Nice and easy as I’m still not able to find much motivation for anything.

I did at least manage to dust the sitting room and bedroom yesterday and vacuum throughout so I was at least a bit productive. Today I will clean the bathroom. I’m breaking the cleaning down into bit sized chunks then at least I don’t feel overwhelmed by everything that needs doing.

I need to get some quotes for the house insurance today as it is up for renewal shortly. Last year it worked out cheaper to buy the contents and buildings cover from different insurers. It would be easier to get them both with the same company but I’ll have to see.

Anyhow, I need to go and get myself some more tea.

Hugs to everyone who is unwell or struggling at the moment.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

I feel so much better this morning :j I spent most of the day yesterday on the sofa resting and snoozing and reading my book sometimes you need a few days just doing nothing, so back to work for me but will see how I get on have told my boss if I feel bad I will come home, but only a short week this week.

Not sure about dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this, I think there are some meatballs in there which need using up.

Will do a wash tonight but will have to use the td, I also need to start looking for kitchen worktops as we start the kitchen revamp at the end of November, apparently the worktop cannot sit here for more than a day or two without being fitted so we need to get the timing right.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

I am sorry that Becky isn't be allowed home for a visit Dumpling can understand how disappointed you are x
Ooh warm sun TA not jealous at all ;)

Well the previously repaired washing machine gave up the ghost yesterday, right in the middle of a towel wash so this morning will be spent sourcing a new one, added to that my car has gone in for its annual service and MOT today so fingers crossed that won't prove too expensive :( Our poor savings will be taking a knock.
On the upside we had lovely time at the football last night, even though they were knocked out it was incredible to see my nephew to play at the Abbey stadium, proud Auntie moment.
Will head over to the yard later to see Lulu and hope to go out for a hack with my pal, food wise it's goats cheese and nut Wellington for tea.

Have a good day folks x
  • Morning ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Dumpling, sorry to hear that Becky will not been home this weekend.

The royal visit went off ok yesterday, they missed the turning in Waltham, had to back track so were late.

I have a load in the washer, hoping to get it dry today. We also need to put the prices on the bits for the sale and pack them away. I put an advert on freecycle for a clothes rail, no one has replied so I am ordering one from Argos, will pick it up tomorrow when we are in town tomorrow. OH has an appointment to pick up his insoles and we will also drop DD2 off at home.

No idea whats for supper might have to do a freezer rummage.
  • Morning all,

    Hope everyone is well.

My mum came over for a bit yesterday which was nice and I helped her buy some Xmas presents. When she left, I made a stab at apple and blueberry pies, but I cut my shortcrust pastry half the size of what it was meant to be (5cm instead of 10cm) so there was barely a teaspoon full of filling. Going to buy more tonight and prepare them right this time.

Football tonight as usual. Sweet potato and chicken curry for dinner and I'll finish my pies before I leave.

    Nelski - Enjoy lunch :)

    Morning all

Waiting for DH to bring DGS here for the morning. He will go to nursery for 12.45. I haven't hit the shower yet. I am expecting DD's vacuum cleaner to be delivered today and don't want to miss it. I will have one when they get back.

It's a bit brighter here today but still cloudy. I might put a towel wash on and see what happens.

Well hugs to all the poorlies and worried, especially Dumpling.

    Have a good day all.
