Testing Artex for asbestos?

Hi everyone,
Has anyone had their Artex tested for Asbestos before? if so how did you do it as I am finding it very hard to find the correct procedure.
I have seen a few websites which offer self testing kits but I am slightly worried about doing it wrong and contaminating the room/carpet from cutting it away... is it easy to avoid this?
Are there any companies recommended? I am from the Birmingham area.. The end result will be to hopefully Skim over the top of it but I just want to know what I am dealing with (New house I have moved into)
Thanks,
Mac

I got a local asbestos pro to come round and test all the potential asbestos in the house. I'd recommend that.
If artex asbestos gets damaged, polyfiller or equivalent. Any higher content asbestos, seek professional advice.0 -
I spoke to Birmingham council about this because my home is/was littered by that rubbish. Nasty/ugly stuff.
I was told that most of it is of minimal/low risk and only the stuff made during a certain time period had small amounts of asbestos. They recommended only minor precautions such as keeping dust down, using water spray and sealing it up in double bags and then arranging collection by the council.
A decent face mask with a quality small particle filter if you are the type who is careful. Not those thin disposable filters which do very little to protect from dust. It should seal against the face. I have a full face mask for such activities.0 -
Just wear a proper P3 dust mask and clean up carefully with a decent vacuum (one that doesn't let dust escape)
This is how I did it
Artex is very low risk.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
As mentioned by other members above, put a face mask and go ahead with skimming on top.
We recently sought some advice about it and decided to skim on top instead of removing it and then plaster the walls/ceilings.
With skimming on top you also ensure that you are not going (or minimal) to disturb the fibres underneath so you are okay.
All the best.Hi everyone,

Hiya,
How much did it cost roughly to get it tested, if you don't mind me asking?
Am thinking of doing similar on my ceilings...0 -
I paid £108 for an asbestos test from a professional company in the summer."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I'm a plasterer, haven`t used artex for years. However, as a lad we worked in clouds of the stuff along with hundreds of other blokes up and down the country. The shocking bit is i've never heard of any one getting ill from it,0

For the whole house? Not bad that. How many ceilings if you don’t mind me asking?0 -

You can get it 20-30 years after exposure. https://www.blf.org.uk/support-for-you/asbestos-related-conditions/asbestosis
Take the relevant precautions and dont cut corners with asbestos.0 -
