Can i get some help please.
I purchased some items form currys on saturday - i paid what they told me to pay which i believed to be the correct price for two laptops a lappy bag and a portable hard dirve (after they kindly offered me some discount).
Today i have had a call from currys saying that the price they charged me was incorrect and i need to pay another £240 in VAT??!!
Can i tell them to stuff it or do i have to pay??
thanks in advance

What would you do if you were overcharged £240 & you only realised when you got home?Dwy galon, un dyhead,
Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.0 -
Im guessing this is complicated by you (or them on your behalf) signing up to some kind of business account (possibly linked with the discount).
A few complexities around this.
If its for an ordered item that you dont have yet, the contract isnt complete and as such they can ask for the difference.
If you walked away with the goods, the contract is complete, ignore the bill.
A caveat being if you are a business customer. Dont fully know the rules but i'd imagine they have more flexibility in chasing you for this.0 -
@spadoosh - it does look like it went under some sort of business account as i was asked a lot of details about my business (for which i was buying the equipment) And i have left the store with the goods - the till slip given to me was signed and checked by security as i was leaving - the amount was paid in full (£1,122.00) - the problem i think i have is that i wasn't given a fully itemised receipt - i just have a customer copy of an account payment?? And was told a receipt would be emailed to me - and i havent received this yet?0

Yeh you owe the money then.
A business receipt will be excl VAT on the basis that a VAT registered business will reclaim. Im guessing you wont be using this for business and or wont be reclaiming the VAT? If you are just pay the money and reclaim. If not, suggest to currys that you wherent actually a business customer but at best they will just put you back to how you was and then sell to you at retail price, maybe a slight discount for messing around.0 -

Thanks Spadoosh - sounds like sound advice.. still miffed by this!! :mad:0 -
Although nobody else has suggested this, perhaps you should consider getting a full refund of what you have paid then buying the items from a better retailer than Currys. You won't often see anything good said about them on these boards (although in the interests of fairness I did once post praise for them myself - but that was in extreme circumstances, I wouldn't normally buy computer hardware from them).0

why not just tell them that you will pop in 'one day' to settle up with them ...............0
