    Thanks.

The best price that I was quoted was £53 for a battery from CarParts4Less.co.uk so I phoned Formula 1, who offered me the same £85 battery for £53 including free fitting so they got my money. It comes with a 3-year warranty as well.

My only concern with buying stuff like car batteries on line is the hassle of sending it back if there is a problem within the warranty period.

Last time I needed one, Halfords were cheaper than ECP (mainly because ECP had hiked their list prices to allow the weekend sale discounts). A decent price-match is always a good thing, though.

Costco, if your local branch sells them and you're a member (or know someone who is).

If you are worried about refunds you can use Tanya through eBay though it is only for a few dollars more.

Though the problem with carparts4less is that it is very hard to return or refund anything and that is why it is cheaper.

any where but a main dealer

Often correct but not always... I have bought parts from a Ford main dealer that were cheaper than used parts.

Because everyone knows to avoid main dealers, people do not check the new prices and pay stupidly for used parts.

  • The one good thing about Ford dealership is that their prices are fixed and displayed on their website.

What's wrong with your friendly local independent motor factor?

You wander in, tell them what battery you want, they hand you the battery, you fit it to the car. Problem solved. No faffing around buying over the net and waiting for delivery.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I'm getting a needed new battery tomorrow and went online yesterday and found Halfords own brand was cheaper the ECP. But the local motor factor is also a good call, they're a mile apart, but I'm tempted to go all girly and get H to fit it. I'm quite happy to change to/from my winter set of wheels, but they can have the hassle of this job with acid, sizing, terminal bolts and the like.

It's also true about the battery dimensions: the batteries recommended online all seemed to vary from the measurements I'd taken of my own.
