Npower Late Billing (over 2 years late)

Was hoping you could help, I have just received my first gas bill after moving in to my property in August 2015. I received several letter apologising for the lateness over the past years but still never received a bill until today.

It totalled £939 which they reduced to £449, guessing they have written off the first 12 months.. I have been billed until October this year, can I push for any futher reductions? There is no way I can pay the full amount by 22nd November as requested.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Emma

Surely you have been putting money away each month whilst waiting for a bill ? You have had 12 months free, what more do you want ? Go to monthly direct debit and have that bill spread over the next 6 / 12 months.

You can push for any reductions you wish. :)

But why don't you expect to pay for the energy you have consumed, and thereby expect other customers to cover that cost?

If you cannot pay the bill within the required time, best to contact the creditor sooner rather than later, explaining the situation, and they will hopefully set you up on an agreed repayment plan.

Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you.
Note that if you do switch supplier, then that supplier may be reluctant to give you too much time to pay, so you may wish to consider staying with the same supplier, but on a much more preferential tariff.

    Good luck!

I agree with Molerat and footyguy, surely you knew your were going to get a bill eventually and should have been saving for it.

You are already getting a free year of energy which is worth nigh on £500 why do you think you are entitled to even more? Who do you think has to pay if you don't?

Just ask them to allow you to pay on a direct debit which will allow you to spread the cost - dont forget you'll have to pay for your current consumption as well so expect to pay about £38 a month for your arrears plus another £40-45 for what you are using now - around £80-£85.

Start reading your meters yourself and send the readings into NP once a month and you shouldn't get into this situation again.

Quite rightly other posters have pointed out that from this point forward you will be paying for what you use as you use it, (£449 a year - £38 a month ?), to which must be added re-paying a debt of £449.

However, N'power are certainly on the back-foot by causing the problem and they have a duty by the terms of their licence to agree a repayment plan that you can afford

Go through your budget and find a figure you can afford and make NP an offer, but keep in mind that if you fail to keep to the agreement NP will immediately demand payment of everything still outstanding.
