Advice on Consumer rights re. fridge freezer

Just to add, I had an expensive AEG condenser drier fail after about 16 months with very little use. AEG aka Electrolux as AEG havent existed for years, totally blanked me. I went to the retailer who initially blanked me but after giving notice under SOGA and stating i would initiate proceedings, we came to an agreement. I now know that the pcb control unit used in quite a number of similar models has an inherent fault. I didnt need to get an expert opinion. I know the component that fails on the pcb.
MCOL doesnt cost much anyway so i would make a formal SOGA claim to the retailer head office and see how it goes. If necessary proceed to MCOL after giving notice before action. You can only loose?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

There is no way I could accept that a consumer would not be protected in this situation - ie. a £600 appliance breaking after 18months - without putting up a fight first. Much appreciated!
Again, the reason it has broken is the important part, not merely the fact it is broken.(14)For the purposes of subsections (3)(b) and (c) and (4), goods which do not conform to the contract at any time within the period of six months beginning with the day on which the goods were delivered to the consumer must be taken not to have conformed to it on that day.
(15)Subsection (14) does not apply if—
(a)it is established that the goods did conform to the contract on that day, or
(b)its application is incompatible with the nature of the goods or with how they fail to conform to the contract.
As you can see, there is a provision that if the goods do not conform within the first 6 months, it is assumed they did not conform on the day they were delivered unless it is established they did or its incompatible with the way they fail to conform. After 6 months, there is no such presumption.
However, I find that sometimes saying something like "Here are pictures of the xxxxxx, you can see theres no damage, its been well looked after, its been given proper ventilation etc. I know you can ask me to get an independent report but I thought given the probability it is inherent and that you're probably able to source a technician more cheaply than I could, that you might prefer to take a look yourselves first rather than refunding me the cost of the independent report" can sometimes bypass the need of a report. But I wouldn't hold your breath given his 28 day comment. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Hi, I bought an AEG SCT71800S1 integral fridge freezer 26th June 2017 for new kitchen so is now just out of 2-year warranty.
Few weeks back the freezer high temp alarm had been going off and the freezer stopped working. I contacted AEG and they sent a free of charge engineer 2 weeks later and offered a free repair of the applicance. The Engineer arrived yesterday to say that it is non-repairable and the insulation had blown within the unit. I now have no fridge freezer, although AEG facebook page offered me £90 last week (which I accepted) to purchase a temporary replacement whilst I waited for engineer visit.
I have a small counter top fridge that I borrowed from work and banked the money.
But after engineers diagnosis yesterday I now need to replace the whole appliance. I have emailed AEG to ask what can be done, and also emailed the internet retailer I purchase goods from.
This cost me £700 two years ago, and I would expect it to last longer than two years, this is why I spent a bit more than I would like to have done thinking I would get 5+ years out of it maybe!
Not happy!

Did you actually read any of the thread?
Your consumer rights are with whoever sold you the appliance but you need to shoe it was an inherent faulr. Did the engineer say why it blew?0
