O/S Daily Saturday 11th November 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, dry underfoot but not sure about the temperature outside.
DH and myself up and enjoying first cuppas and brekkie, I'm up showered, dressed and fed as I'm working. DH is still not well but I think we're going in the right direction.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had the LO veggie curry and rice, very nice it was too. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and beans.
Yesterday I did get the remaining washing and drying done, and tackled the ironing pile, but wasn't overly productive otherwise, just can't seem to get motivate myself at the moment. I don't imagine we'll be doing much this afternoon, just at home and hoping the rest will help DH get better.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The forecast was for a drop in temps this weekend and they were right, it feels a bit chilly! The sun is forecast to get his hat on so that should improve things a bit.
SILVER OLDIE you have done so well with your weight, sadly I haven't! I fell by the wayside well and truly last night when Mr TA opened the big box of Thorntons Pudding Selection chocs he got for his birthday. (We were supposed to be keeping them for Christmas!) Oooh they are yummy and we couldn't stop shovelling them in! Back on the healthy eating wagon again today ......!
I want to get the bus into town this morning as there are odd bits I need - mostly from Poundland. But I also want to check on my Xmas gift bags and wrapping paper before I go and replenish my stocks left over from last year. It will be a job less when the manic buying begins and the shops are packed.
I want to make a big pan of Carrot & Orange soup this afternoon and this time I will add some garlic and ginger for a bit of oomph. The freezers got sorted out yesterday and there will just be space for a few more tubs of soup.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted. Take care all whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Csarina I’m sorry to hear about your shed. It is horrible that you’ve got the problem of getting everything out again when you finally thought that all the work was done.
JackieO hope your daughter is more comfortable now.
Silver-oldie well done on the weight loss.
Lainey glad you had a good time away.
I was woken up by heavy rain about 3.00am this morning and a really strong wind. I haven’t been able to get back to sleep properly since then. The winds seem to have dropped a bit now though and the rain is easing, so hopefully it won’t continue all day.
I had a lovely lunch out yesterday and really enjoyed myself. I’m not sure what I will have for dinner today, I will need to do a freezer rummage in a minute and see what is in there that won’t take too much effort.
Not sure what I’ll be doing today. I don’t have anything planned so will just see how the day unfolds.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning all.
Yesterday the online session worked well enough and the topic wasn’t too dull. I then jumped in the car and drove down to Glasgow to see DM. I didn’t want to wait another week, she loves a lot of TLC. Aged almost 90 years she deserves it.
As usual, it’s raining here. And, as another usual DM’s house is overheated yet she was still cold last night. It’s lack of moving around I think. Anyway, I filled the little hot water bottle and she held it on her lap.
Apart from a shopping expedition I have no idea what the day will bring. I hope it brings everyone a happy Saturday.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's very cold and wet here this morning but I have the back door wide open due to the fact I cooked a fish pie yesterday and it still smells rather whiffy. I am sat here shivering but I will give it a few more minutes before I close the door and light a candle.
I am going to see Becky today :j:j. Jemima is picking me up this afternoon and we will make our way down to see her. I cannot wait, I have missed her so much it is crazy. I have a bag of stuff she has asked me to bring including a new phone as she isn't allowed a smart phone on the ward. I have bought her a little Nokia so at least shw will be able to keep in touch with me and her friends and family.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -

Morning All
The sun is trying to come out, hope it does as I have bedding to dry. The other load is on the pulley.
The downstairs bathroom has had a clean as has the fridge, bins all emptied and kitchen wiped down. I haven't done any housework all week so am playing catch up today. There's a stack of paperwork to be sorted, that can wait until this afternoon.
I'm going to a boxercise class this morning, not sure it's my thing but sounds fun - until I can't walk tomorrow!
Enjoy your visit dumpling.
Have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It's grey and dull here but nice and snug on the boat, I've topped up the fire and will get some more coal in from the cratch when I am dressed.
We went to a quiz night last night, it was fun but I'm getting way too intolerant in my old age.
One of the questions was about a Shakespeare play the title being a person's name, one of our team members insisted that the answer was A Tale of Two Cities, I just wanted to slap her!
Apart from that we came 8th so not too bad and one of our team won a box of chocolates in the raffle.
I've no idea what we are doing today, we'll decide when my beloved surfaces.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all,
Misery all round this morning. The pump on my washer has packed in. Well it's working but taking forever to empty. It's screwed up. So Grump takes it apart to find a couple of wires and a household fuse in the filter. My fault of course for not checking Youngests work pockets properly. I always do but his work trousers have a million and one pockets and I was trying to multi task by cooking tea as well. In fairness, Youngest does empty his pockets but missed the items that were found in the washer and I missed them as well. So here was me and Grump yelling at each other whilst Youngest was sitting in his room with his headphones on playing games. He's ruined part of my new floor when a tin of red bull leaked in his bag whilst we were away and stained the grouting on my new floor. His lack of care is costing us dearly.
It didn't help when Youngest walked in from work with £500 worth of tools he'd just bought out of his monthly bonus and he hasn't started paying his Dad board yet since his car accident. Not my decision of course and if Grump had discussed it with me first i'd have disagreed but what do I know? Now Grump is short of money his decision is hanging around like a bad smell. Now the decision is.. do I wade in and talk to Youngest and be the unpopular one or do I leave Grump to sort it out? His mess, he can deal with it type of thing.
I've got my Grandchildren overnight tonight. Daughter is getting earlier and earlier bringing them and is collecting them later and later. She wanted to drop them off at 2. I said 6 but we compomised at 4.30. She's pushing her luck.
I'm sick of being taken for a mug... This woman is going to be pretty unpopular by the looks of it but I should have stuck my ground years ago.
Today I must..

Good Morning chums ,well DD is stitch free and a bit more comfortable, but still needs her crutches to walk with, but the nurse was pleased as the wound has healed nicely.
She still can't drive for at least another four -six weeks so she will be on admin next week in her office, no viewings or valuations for awhile for her (she is an estate agent) But fingers crossed she will be on the mend now. She hates inactivity though and being stuck on the sofa for two weeks has been very niggling for her.
Frank is still fighting bless him and my DD is just hoping for a peaceful passing for him.
It's my DGS Danny's 27th birthday next Tuesday and I know he is hoping to speak to his Granddad on that day of Facetime, as he lives in New York. He managed to talk to him on Wednesday as Frank was having a good day and my DD messaged Dan to say ' ring him nowThe wonders of technology eh
Its sad to see him though as he has lost so much weight.
Today I have some baking to do, that always keeps me occupied
Tonight I shall watch the Rememberance Service on TV as I like to see my nephew Hugh, who is in the sevice every year as his boss is the Bishop of Manchester, and Hughie, as a vicar, carries the staff and often the book.
My niece Lorraine (his sister) is over from Mexico on holiday, and so she will be there tonight watching her younger brother at the ceremony. I have been to watch it live, and to have the total silence of the poppies falling at the end is so sad and chilling, as each poppy represents a soldier whom we lost in WW1. It is definitely not a glorification of war in any way.
I hope you have a great visit with Becky dumpling and she is feeling better.
Gers your Mum sounds like an amazing lady, I too have a little hot water bottle that I have at my feet as my feet are always cold :)great when I am watching TV.
silver -oldie well done on your weight loss, very hard when this is the season of warming comfort food
TA, so you ate some sweeties ,well you enjoyed them and that's what they are for.
No one ever said as they gasped their last "I wish I had eaten more lettuce ":) as the saying goes tomorrow is another day .
nmlc good job your OH saw the Dr I hope he will make a swift recovery
HollyHarvey just treat yourself to a 'pottering day' I do at times, and its lovely just doing what you fancy even if its only feet up and a snooze in front of the TV
camelot !!! boxercise ??? sounds a bit too healthy for me but you go girl if that's what you fancy:):)
I shall be productive this morning, baking and cooking, but its feet up and a bit more knitting this afternoon with a pot of tea and some biscuits a blankey over my knees and my hot water bottle at my feet The weather is wet, windy and miserable outside so the curtains will be shut and I shall be happily in my warm nest indoors
Have a good weekend chums what ever you are doing enjoy and keep warm
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Family are coming round tomorrow so need to get ingredients for beef in red wine. (hairy dieters' recipe) Decide to kill two birds with one stone and go and collect my new glasses in Leeds and grocery shop at the same time.
Pleased with my decision to start shopping for presents early and online but had not appreciated that meant spending the money early as well so am checking the bank account every day online to make sure I keep track. Two meat hampers, one beef and one a four bird roast with all the trimmings and the veg have been ordered for delivery on the 21st or 22nd which is not only a load off my mind but quite a saving as well (more than £20 off each hamper while the offer lasts).
Family keep coming up with ideas and essentials so will jot down ideas and decide the simplest way to sort it (maybe suggest they bring some of the things themselves then I don't forget stuff)
Judi
You sound like you could do with a break (not family member's neck please) Is there any way you can make some time for you
Need to go catch the bus so see you later.
