Offers plenty of commentary on Norfolk and Norwich in particular0 -

I've only lived here for 30 years (so am still eyed with suspicion!) but even I wouldn't trust those Suffolk ********!
(Apologies to posters from Suffolk)

2 hours isnt long enough to park in sains (queens rd) and do the cathedral, castle and elm hill. True but OP left the thread a bit late. Once they've got to the Cathedral they can work out how long they've got - I hope! Miss out the Castle.
I think they must only have left themselves a couple of hours though, if driving cross-country from Wales(!).
park in the castle mall ( it is no where near as busy as chapelfield) and you are right under the castle and much closer to the cathedral. about £1.20 an hour Also true, but if unfamiliar with Norwich, I think you could waste more time finding Castle Mall. However if OP can (or could) it cuts down on walking time.
edit realised you are on way by now. Yeah - I know. Could've done with more time to respond.
thats a hell of a drive in a day ( possibly 6 hours each way)
I think it qualifies as an expedition! Norwich is worth visiting, though.
Again, apologies to people across the border.0 -

I agree norwich is worth visiting, wether it’s worth a few minutes/ hours in the middle of an “expedition” , not so sure.
Used to be easy to find th castle mall car park but with all the road closures and reroutes it’s hard to find anywhere in Norwich by car0 -

I agree. In the last 12 months it's become very difficult because of the traffic management changes you refer to. There are now new bottlenecks where there didn't used to be, and new rat-running routes developing all the time. I understand what the city council is trying to achieve (fewer motor vehicles in the city centre) but I'm not sure how effective they are.
We walk into the centre usually (about 50 mins round trip) but when asked by motorists for directions to "xyz" we are often stumped for an answer. You need quite an intimate knowledge of driving around Norwich to find car parks inside the inner ring (or link) road.
Same everywhere I suppose...
And I also agree, you can't do Norwich justice in a couple of hours. But if you are coming from Wales, it's a bit like a day-trip to New Zealand.0 -

its underground so maybe easier to get? it's much better than the concrete car park/cattle market that was there....0 -
As it happened I didn't have time to do anything in Norwich or anywhere else.
Departed home 7am, arrived 13:30 ish
The turn around in Norwich took about 30 mins and it was clear that there would be no sightseeing, due to itinerary needs.
My Asda fuel reciept says we left Norwich at 2:15
We then arrived at a motel near Sawtry nr Peterborough about 2 and a bit hours later. Went down the road to Godmanchester in Huntingdon at 5pm to find something to eat. The pubs did not start serving until 6pm. OH & I had to get going to back to Wales. We were directed to Riverside Fish and Chips.
Riverside fish and chips is housed in an old Tudor timber frame building on "The Causeway" in Godmanchester. Parking possible on the opposite side of road. Inside is a standard fish and chip serving bar and kitchen with some eating tables to accommodate up to about 16 people in the front of the shop with window looking out to the street - Tudor beams everywhere.
We expected to get "chip shop food" just served on a plate, in this regard we were correct, nothing fancy here, except the setting.
Large cod or haddock (or numerous other fish) dishes served with chips was to be £8 We were served a large fish in batter just as you would get from the take away, and the rest of the plate filled with as much chips as they could get on it. Both the fish and the chips were very nice. 10/10
If you ever need somewhere to eat on the A1 / A1(M) / A14 around Huntingdon which is just south of Peterborough, this place is really good.
We then took our motel passenger back to Sawtry, and we left at 7pm
We did A14 / A46 to Tewkesbury then M50 to M4 then A470 home. We got home about 22:450 -
^^^ I lived in Huntingdon for 9 years, very nice area. If you're near Peterborough again, the Shanghai Gardens chinese eat-all-you-want restaurant on Lincoln Road is the best I've had in the country......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Sorry to hear you had no time to look around Norwich! If you are ever here again, you won't be disappointed.
Thank you for the fish and chips tip. We shall note it.0
